Stop, Bullet Time

Bullet Time is my game for Mini Ludum Dare #9. It’s finished, and playable on Kongregate!

The game’s dead simple; the goal is to survive as long as you can. If things get too hectic, you can activate Bullet Time, which slows down enemy bullets long enough for you to navigate to safety. The highest rank is “Martha”, which requires you to survive for 3 whole minutes.

Making this reminded me of how much I enjoy shooters. I really should take a week out and make a more ambitious one at some point!

    Nice one =)
Since I suck at shmups, I enjoyed more calculating how fast I could die.
My record so far is 0.90

If you use bullet time right at the start, you might be able to get as low as 0.4 🙂

    Yaay! ^^
    You finished and fixed it!
I have to say that the quality is abnormal for a game made in such a short time! I love retro-like games! =D

What you said about the API though is not true, I have to admit it’s quite a pain in the ass, which I noticed with Evolution Squared, but Kongregate actually made tutorials for it.

Dunno in which AS you made Bullet Time.

Yeah, it looks like the old AS2 “highscores” thingy doesn’t work with AS3, far as I can make out. I think I can work around it by using statistics, though. Just about to fix it and upload it 🙂

    Yay! ^^

Terry I love your games, both arcade and story-telling ones. And Bullet Time is great as well but one thing is pretty annoying – the shield. Those pulsating squares make navigating aroung bazilions of bullets quite difficult.. Anyway, great game and it’s just unbelivable how fast you have created it.

    Keep doing cool games!

Ok, changed my mind, those squares don’t annoy me any more, I love this game 😀 my record is 31 seconds ;D

Is there a version of this available outside of Kongregate? It keeps freezing my browser, and I think it has to do with the chat thing on the right side.

    Huh, that’s weird 🙁

    It’s up on Newgrounds too:

I should probably just host it on this site too 😛 I kinda gave up on hosting my own flash games after a big site linked directly to Don’t Look Back and it used up almost all of my monthly bandwidth in a day 🙁

Awesome, thanks for the newgrounds link; that works.

Oh! I just got that joke in the title of this blog post. XP

Not too fond of the Newgrounds mirror if it doesn’t have any high score table…

Don’t know why people keep asking you to fix the game, it is very close to perfect if you ask me.

Hi, ummm, i was just wondering if this could be ported to the mac? Or does it run under Wine? i really don’t want to boot camp for this.

Non-square hit detection area messes with my mind. But ’tis very fun, even if the bullet patterns are a little unimaginative…

Hi! Returned to this after many years, but still a classic. Just wanted to ask, any way to listen/download/buy the whole soundtrack? I know I’ll never reach the end of it by just playing. 😛

Hey Bruno! The music for this was from a sound pack that you had to use for the Mini LD – but the pack seems to have gone offline!

Do you released this game source code? 🙂
