Featured VVVVVV Level: “Dimension 333333″ by Sendy

Sendy’s Dimension 333333 is a *huge* and extremely polished level; my playtime clocked in at just over an hour – and that’s without finding all twenty trinkets. Structurally, it’s somewhat similar to VVVVVV itself, with an introduction stage, an open outdoor area, four crewmate stages based around different ideas, and a harder final stage. It’s really incredible to see something like this just a few short weeks after the first version of the editor launched.

This level is great fun, and filled with interesting challenges from start to finish, but what really makes it special is its attention to detail, which shines through in every room. It’s been put together with a lot of care, with a lot of thought given to each room’s visual composition (especially in the outside area).

There are two varieties of this level – an easy version and a hard version – but I’d strongly recommend avoiding the hard version unless you’re an IWBTG veteran or something. In any case, the easy version is only easy in a comparative sense – it’s actually pretty bloody hard – I died 639 times in my playthrough!

To play a VVVVVV player level, extract the .vvvvvv file into your VVVVVV levels folder. On windows, that should be in My Documents/VVVVVV, on Mac it’s Documents/VVVVVV, on Linux it’s ~/.vvvvvv

Wow! Thanks for the feature :)

I’m so glad you managed to finish it… That’s a good feeling!

I just played it (easy version) : 696 deaths (until the final level I thought I would have beaten you :) ), 1 hour and 50 minutes.

    And I got only 19 trinkets :(

It looks like I will have to play it again.

This level is truly wonderful. Unfortunately, I’m blanking on the room name, but my favorite so far involves a computer terminal that misrepresents its capabilities. What’s so great is that one gets the feeling that the designer is training you to play better and more precisely (as did the original VVVVVVV). It’s subtle here, but we’re seeing a lot of simple challenges with nearby checkpoints followed by slightly longer challenges that build on the previous.

I like this level but there is a bug. Just after the first crew, I get into a warp thing, and I don’t know what happened, but I died on a spike and I went back to the last cheakpoint which is in the “cage” where the crew was, and with a gravity line up . So I just can’t get through. I am stuck :/

PS : Sorry for my bad english, I am french

Is it possible to save your progress in a user level? If not, i’m hoping this feature will be added as well. It makes these user levels less enjoyable that you have to finish them in one go.

That said, i love this level :-)

To save: hit return to open the menu. Right arrow a few times to get to the save screen. Then, SPACE or V to actually save. Unfortunately, hitting return will simply close the menu without saving.

    (Sorry: SPACE, V, or Z.)

    Ah, never noticed that. Thanks!

I’ve beaten IWBTG. That probably explains a lot, doesn’t it?

This one’s brilliant! Well done, Sendy.

@ Potexto … That’s really bad luck, I suppose. I hope you hadn’t beaten any other levels when that happened!

When you hit the portal in Verdigris’ room, you’re teleported directly onto a checkpoint. So technically this shouldn’t happen. But, I suppose if you die in the process of teleporting, a sort of mini-glitch happens where the room is reset but you’re put back in it. I’ll put a trigger inside the ‘cage’ so if this happens in future, you’ll at least be able to get out from inside!

@ Everyone else, thanks for your kind words!

I couldn’t get into this one. The checkpoint placement frustrates me in places like “The Awkward Terminal”. Room design and humor was very nice though.

I’ve recently uploaded a new version of this map, which fixes all known issues so far! I PM’ed Terry to inform him, *I think*, but I can’t see the message in my outbox there, so hopefully he will see this.

The updated version is in the same old thread that the old version was in (the one linked from here)

    Enjoy :)

Got it! Sorry, a bit swamped right now but I’ll update this as soon as I get a sec :)

Thanks for letting me know! The PM system on the board was a bit of a weird experience for me :)

Sendy! Fucking fantastic to see you still making maps, albeit for a different game. I spread the word around #n about this level, so we’ve had a few people play it so far.
Great fun, I still love the style.

Hey.. Thanks Romaniac! I’m still hoping someone’ll do a let’s play on youtube, preferably with commentary and blind… Thanks for spreading the word :) I’ll have to pop over to #n for a chat and some tea.

And I’m *always* making maps ;)

  18. [...] CCCCCCCCCC Retold is a re-imagining of that game as a VVVVVV level. I was expecting a pretty straight conversion, but it’s actually very different – while lots of the basic structural ideas remain (the story, the zones), the content itself is all new. It’s huge too – probably the biggest player level since Dimension 333333. [...]

This level is great fun. I too am on 19 trinkets.

I remember I saw one trinket which was accessible via the previous screen but it wasn’t possible to go back there from where I was and I’d already hit the checkpoint. I can’t remember where it was. It can’t be in blue land because you backtrack out, and I’ve checked green. It’s either in purple or red I think.

Scratch my last post, I think that was another level by someone else.

I’m following the “on the path to the doctor [Violet] at lover’s leap, curiosity not martyrdom” clue. I’ve got across but there’s two gravity lines in the way.

You mean, the one on the 3DS was easy mode?!?!?!?
