Hexagon

This weekend is Pirate Kart V, a very special creative endeavour where people from all over the world attempt to make as many games as possible in 48 hours. (We’re already up to 363!)
I started this little game this morning, intending it as a warm up – but it got a little bit out of hand…

Super Hexagon
VVVVVV
This is pretty cool.
Very nice! But gosh if this isn’t difficult. Well, I guess it’s not the hardest game ever, but yeah, this is probably going to eat up a lot of my time.
Pretty addicting. My current best is 45:01. I can’t seem to get any higher than that no matter how hard I try
Loving it, but those spirals feel a bit off. They are really difficult to get through, yet don’t appear often enough to get much practice on them.
But damn if you’re not just crazy for managing a game like this in such a short time frame.
I like it
come for the difficulty and cool colors
stay for the techno beats
The controls keep sticking at the worst possible moments, though I don’t think I could beat level 2 even if my computer were working properly…
Joe’s right though, the sick beats are reason enough to play by themselves.
Damn it, I only had a quick look at my blogs before I went to put some coffee (and some clothes) on. Now I’ve been sat here for the last half an hour with my eyeballs going crusty…
Still, 73:25 – Better than I ever did on the Super Gravitron
Wow, this was super awesome!
What a beautiful game. Is there any way to get the soundtrack?
Pfft.. masochist!
Awesome piece! currently sitting at 44:57 (foreverasquare.jpg)
It would be easier/better(?) with mouse control, imo.
this game is from the future.

So frelling hard!
I love the concept, graphics, and music. That’s perfect. Well done! Can we hope for an exe version?
This game has consumed the last few hours of my life getting to stage 6. Absolutely Epic.
Drew a crowd in the office when I screamed in agony after getting through 5 near consecutive spirals and then hit a wall at 59:46.
I don’t know why but I LOVE stuff like this. Very smooth and very nice! Can’t wait to see more shinies
Hey, it’s not working on my Mac (Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102). It just does not load at all, black screen with credits at the bottom. Any ideas?
Not the best or most complex jam game I’ve ever played, but by FAR the most polished! Almost everything feels right (the timing on the long spirals being too precise is the only thing that feels wrong), the colors and graphics are hypnotizing, it has a consistent and well executed graphical theme, and the music and sound effects are great. I think I was playing as much to hear further in the song than anything. Absolutely love it, and I’m probably going to buy chipzel’s album now.
This is an amazing game, going to put it up their with every extend extra, thank you for making one of my favorite flash games
Love the game! May I get a tracklisting of the songs, pleeeeease! I wanna BUMP these chunes
For those of you who wanted the tune. http://soundcloud.com/chipzel/courtesy
awww yeeeee! ty
Great execution, I like how most of the challenge is just trying not to panic!
The clock is really a stress factor here, and after I managed level 6 and stopped worrying about the time, everything seemed much easier
Super catchy game! Easy to play quickly, so my friends and I were competing between classes. Finally got over 80s, and was slightly disappointed that the music stopped. =3 Great job though!
Great game, good work!
1 for mouse control. IMO the keyboard controls make an already hard game incredibly frustrating.
game is really awsome
Guess we’re never going to see Isothingy, then…
Just messing around, I loved the game! Really bloody hard, though, I only got to triangle (so far).
Told a bunch of friends at school about it and now everyone is playing and work ethic has been greatly diminished.
Very good, but very hard Game. Thumbs up.
I WILL CONQUER THESE SPIRALS OR DIE TRYING
Mouse controls wouldn’t work here!
1) Your movement is relative to the stage, which is rotating. There’s no way to make that work with the mouse, you’d have to compensate for the stage-rotation yourself!
2) The spirals are timed so you have to just hold down the arrow key to get through them. They’re designed with the fixed speed of movement in mind! You’d have to try to manually recreate that with the mouse.
All in all, this game is definitely NOT appropriate for mouse controls.
I thought that the game clock was going too slow on my computer, therefore giving me smaller scores than the ones I was achieving (mostly because I was stuck on triangle and then, in another PC, I got pentagon at first try).
So I started playing with my cellphone on the left hand, ready to stop a chronometer right when I die and compare the results. And then I saw the game’s clock was just fine. And then I got to hexagon. Silly me.
Damn. This is awesome.
Can we get a downloadable version of this?I would love to play offline o0n my laptop
Awesome game, took me a bunch of hours to get to the last stage.
OK, now I played it all the way to HEXAGON in full screen. I almost cried. This music is unbelievable.
My best is 62:38
Here’s a screenshot http://gyazo.com/33595b53460ba51efe4fb9ea4e308acf
I can do better though.
love it, wanna see it on iPhone n stuff
Ha, ha! 100:40 xD I can give a screenshot for proof :p
129:38 >:D
You, sir, are my hero.
264 seconds =)
Terry, in case you haven’t seen the article, Hexagon received a positive review on News.com/Webware (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-57387080-2/you-spin-my-head-right-round-right-round../)
117,54 BITCHES!!

@Dr. Mario, i’m close :0 203:25. I smash you!
Terry, this game is amazing! Is there some way we can just throw money at you for making awesome things? You should put a button for that on this site!
Anyway, I wanted to mention a little bug that I found: I got EXACTLY 45:00 seconds on my first run, and I still have “Level 4: Square” on the title screen and the message “Next Level at 45 Seconds”. I’m not sure if this happens in any other cases, but I thought I’d point it out! Also, just for clarity, this happened while playing the download version of Hexagon from this website:
http://indiegames.com/2012/02/browser_game_pick_hexagon_terr.html
Thanks again Terry, for this and all the other great games you’ve made!
288:15 seconds
265:01 :0 Mission Complete. Now l0pht is on my target :p
Hell, this is an awesome game, completely addictive. I may have spent ten hours playing in less than a week. But the result is here : My best score is 426,47
I would appreciate a highscore list for both versions (online/offline), so you can see your best times offline and the worlds’ best times online
would be great!
Fair play. Reminds me a bit of Tempest 2000.
Not only reminds me of Tempest 2000, but makes me wish I could play this on the Jaguar complete with a spinner.
Great concept in here. With a bit of expanding it could be something else. The patterns get repetitive – there’s a lot of room for improvement there.
High adrenaline addictive simpleness done awesome.
Wow this is like sweet and stuff. and has Chipzel. I love it
Woah, from 43 something up to 77.31 the moment I just started going with the flow. This game is so well done in all ways.
This games so addicting i reached 232:67 seconds (232 seconds) it was hard but fun. I have a youtube vid of it heck it out my usernames the same as this one without the underscore
this is highly “AWESOME”
Please make an iOS port and get rich
Whow! Great! How about a C64-conversion?
141:01 is my current best time, this game has gotten really easy for me, REALLY easy.
Amazing game, thanx.
Simple and orgasmic ^^
What an awesome game, but the CONTROLS need some work
128:29 ^^
I love this game, im totally addicted to it. And my best time is 253 seconds
Amazing, unique, genius!
Too bad the turning sensitivity was a bit too high for me, I couldn’t turn just a little, I kept ending up turning too much even if I only pressed the button for the shortest possible time.
Guys, I figured out the coolest trick! Mute the game (M) and switch to another tab. Open YouTube to the music of your choice. Switch back to Hexagon, and it’ll fluctuate to the music! (Probably because both use Flash?) I’m not sure which browser/OS combos this works on; I’ve only tried it using Firefox 12.0 under Mac OS X 10.7.
Wait … dang it, now it doesn’t work …
And now it does again … strange. It’s a bit erratic.
175:29 while muted
*horrible lag*
*four spirals in a row*
…
Whirligig, your comment starts with a simple coincidence, and ends with a profound misunderstanding of how Flash works.
It’s likely the BPM of your song just matched, or nearly matched, the original background song. We’re wired to see patterns, especially audio-visual ones. Don’t read too much into it.
I loooooooooooooooved it. <33333333
I arrived at 45:23. :3
I’ve found the reason why it would not work on mac : i had to change flashplayer option in system prefs and tell to ask if application wants to write things on the machine
yeah lv 5
love the game LOVE VVVVVV this game can make me mad in 9,000 different ways in a hundred realms why? I CAN ONLY GET TO 9.59!!!!!!!! going the play realm of the mad god now -_-
What a great an addicting game….just had a new topscore! 75,41
new monster topscore:181,34
beated the top score on kongregate(1350)with 1579sec
great game, a good exemple of doing a lot with little adictive challenging and fun but the only probleme when you are doing high score above 500 is that the dificulty stop increasing after 60 sec so the game can become repetitive sometime so maybe add new step like 120 240 480 960…so on for exemple.
202:32 god’s concentration
