I hope you’re all enjoying Naya’s Quest! I uploaded the soundtrack to bandcamp last night, and thought I should share it here too.

One of the reasons this game took so long is that I’d decided I wanted to do everything myself – which included writing a script, and composing a soundtrack. They’re both things I find very difficult, but I think it was pretty important for me to make myself do them anyway.

In the end, I think that’s what I’m most proud of with this game – that I went outside my creative comfort zones, and that every part of this game is mine, right down to the tool I used to write the soundtrack.

  1. I very much enjoyed the overall experience and feel of Naya’s Quest. It inspired me to write my own songs for my roguelike, Morf as well.

Do you have a favorite song in the OST?

  2. Very nice! In the times before everybody had internet access, I wrote my own painting program to paint tiles and sprites for my own bomberman clone. Not because I *wanted* to do it, but because I had to. I simply wasn’t able to read any of the common graphic file formats 🙂

  3. The game mechanic is really clever and the soundtrack was effective. The story I don’t quite grasp, but I like the direction it goes. Also! I like your endings. Keep it up 🙂

  4. Loved the soundtrack and had a great time playing the game today. The game actually made me feel smart! How often does that happen? I was a bit boggled by the last few levels and thought that each one could be a game itself (maybe that’s something you were going for with the story – multiple realities with different rules but sharing some of the same constants).

  5. Just finished the game’s (much easier) New Game mode. Apparently my friends gave up before even finishing the first playthrough.

It was a nice little brain teaser, and the protagonist sprite was sooooo cute with the arm-flailing. 😀

  6. This is one of the the best soundtracks I’ve heard, but unfortunately it appears to be badly recorded, because some sounds are so harsh my ears hurts. Could be because of file quality?
