Current Version: 5.4
If you don't have any version number on the Chapter Selection Screen you also need to update!

A story about friends.

Features:

I put a lot of work in creating and testing everything, but if you don't like something, notice a grammar/spelling mistake, or find any glitches/bugs...
Please tell me!

part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IateCxq8Dfg

Difficulty:
It isn't meant to be too hard (still, it should be challenging enough)
but the main purpose of the levels is telling a story  :)

just tried this
at the top of the room "EVERYTHING" i died a lot, apart from that didn't have too much trouble.  i got past it, so it isn't too hard, but if you're not going for a challenging level it could maybe be a little easier?

"Everything" shouldn't be too hard, I'll see if I can make it a little easier (still, it should emphasise that he really would do everything to get a friend) ;)

I'm not very skilled at platformers so what seems quite hard to me might be fine for most players!

I'll keep it how it is now for the time being, and if more people report problems I'll change it :)

Cool level, I enjoyed it. I wish there was a way to skip to the beginning of a certain chapter. Maybe release each chapter as separate files?

I created a chapter selection screen at the beginning where you can choose where you want to start! :)

I got the first crew member (The one where you have to disable the Gravity lines) and once i had got it Captain Viridian said a few lines of dialouge then refused to move. I decided to save and come back and see if that helped and came back to see this...   http://i.imgur.com/Obrow.png

I don't mind as i'm actually pretty good at VVVVVV and got through the first levels pretty easily so i will just restart and go back to that spot. Just pointing it out to you in case you can fix it. I think it had something to do with the "Congratulations you saved a Crewmate" Dialouge overlapping the "Blue smiled" dialouge.

Ok every level i play is glitched now even the campaign cutscenes. Every level has those four ghost men. And i can't move. Hmph.

EDIT: I reinstalled and played the level again and the exact same thing happened once i got the Crewmate :/.

I played it and you were right about the problem, it was the two dialogs overlapping.
I made some changes and now it works fine again!
Have fun with the other two chapters ^^  :viridian:

I ran into another glitch after saving Mario. I went back down into the room he was in and some text got frozen on the screen and pressing action does nothing. No ideas how to solve this one :/. I will start from chapter 2 although so hopefully it will be ok.

I didn't have any problems here testing, but I changed some things that should solve it, still I don't really know why it happened, so I'm not sure if it works...
Thanks for reporting! :)

You only have to jump once there, and wait for the right moment. If you know how to do it it's really easy!
Thanks a lot for all the comments, and I'm gonna try your level as soon as it's finished! :)

This is great!!  A charming little story, and good gameplay to boot; kinda challenging at some parts, but nothing too tough.  The cutscenes are extremely amusing, and I liked the part where you removed the spikes after getting the trinket.  Found one RAE (Room Alignment Error) in the Mario chapter, attached.  You can bounce far enough down to go in the walls.

Status: Finished the version with 3 chapters.

Completed chapter 4!  Your story is becoming very intriguing.  This one was harder, I think a couple more save points would be nice, at least in the beginning of every room (this is not the case in only one or two rooms).

EDIT: Terry should totally feature this when it's done.

Some weird thing happened in chapter 1 for me where the gravity lines just disappeared without me getting the trinket. I ended up getting it anyways, but you might wanna look into that.

Wow uh...

That's some ending... :verdigris:

I only ran into one problem:

The bounding boxes for platforms/enemies aren't exact, and when you put them against walls, the enemy hits the wall before the edge of the box. Here, since one hits the edge and one doesn't, get bounce at different times. When I finally got over there, they were misaligned and I had no way of getting through, so I had to wait.

I removed the little wall there, so it should be alright now!

Alright, lemme review this level.

First off, I loved the story, it was absolutely great. 9/10 on it. Loved the twist!

Secondly, it was pretty difficult! 8/10 on the difficulty, I guess. B)

Third off, I loved the level design, absolutely awesome. 9/10 on it.

Room names were okay, eh. 7/10.

All in all, I'd give it a 8 out of 10.  :)

I tried to recreate the problem and it only happens when you pass through the lower right corner. This is because the hole you enter is bigger than the hole you are 'teleported' to. This causes you to get stuck in the wall, and after that magically slide through the wall, thus ending up in the room above it, which is in this case the end.

Here you'll find an UNOFFICIAL release by me with the problem fixed:

Ahahaha bug-hunting!  :vermillion:

There are a couple places where you can jump past gravity lines

At the start of the first friend room you can flip onto the ceiling and go back a screen, this will intersect you with a wall and you either float down, or flip again and float up bypassing some rooms.

In the area with the first friend, it's possible to accidently be jumping up to try and hit the first moving platform when you trigger the dialog sequence, leading to death and respawning in the middle of talking (which is weird).

It's still possible to get stuck if you go back into Mario's room after freeing him, which xOnixic reported on page 1.
Went back down and somehow triggered a dialog ("Welcome back! How was it?") that wouldn't go away or advance (so I couldn't flip).

It's possible to get stuck in the princess room by dying instead of taking the warp exit after collecting the shiny, additionally the first warp intersects you slightly with the wall, which can be used to clip into the room above.

There are several places where you can trigger dialog again and again and again by going back or dying which can be a little annoying.

Here's a youtube video that shows some of these bugs! (But not all of them). I've seen the jumping past gravity lines bug in several levels so thought I'd show a video showing how it's done, sorry about the terrible quality, I don't exactly do this sort of stuff very often, and don't have the right tools or skills for making good videos.

Hello everybody, I'm back!
Tomorrow is my birthday, and ten days later is my girlfriends birthday, so I'm really busy at the moment.
But of course I won't let you guys down, I'm working on a new version now with a lot of fixed language errors.
I'm Dutch so English is not my first language, and if you spot any other errors,
Please tell me!

Thanks in advance, and the next version will be up in about 30 minutes if everything goes right.

Edit:
Ahahaha bug-hunting!  :vermillion:

I saw your post after making this reply, but of course your hard work won't go unnoticed!
It's great to see that somebody did the hard work while I was on holiday ^^
I'll try to fix as much bugs as possible and include them in the next update!
Thanks alot!  ;D

edit2:
detailed bug-fixing!

There are a couple places where you can jump past gravity lines
Fixed the two that you showed in the video :)
In the area with the first friend, it's possible to accidently be jumping up to try and hit the first moving platform when you trigger the dialog sequence, leading to death and respawning in the middle of talking (which is weird).
Don't see how I could fix that, but it's not a really important bug, it's just weird ^^
It's still possible to get stuck if you go back into Mario's room after freeing him, which xOnixic reported on page 1.
Went back down and somehow triggered a dialog ("Welcome back! How was it?") that wouldn't go away or advance (so I couldn't flip).
It should be fixed now, although I couldn't get the bug myself...
It's possible to get stuck in the princess room by dying instead of taking the warp exit after collecting the shiny, additionally the first warp intersects you slightly with the wall, which can be used to clip into the room above.
You can still enable it by going past the place where the trinket was located.
Still, it's really stupid if you die there ^^
There are several places where you can trigger dialog again and again and again by going back or dying which can be a little annoying.
Yup I had the same problem, but that's just the way these levels are designed
the story element also has its disadvantages.. ;)

Anyway, thanks a lot for reporting the bugs, the new version is done now and I'll update the dropbox link and the first post now!
