VVVVVV Levels / Asteroid System V
June 21, 2022, 08:12:16 PM
Hello again! I've come back from a 5-year absence of new maps with Asteroid System V! It's a 10x10 level, although about 20 rooms are unused, where Viridian and crew get trapped in an asteroid belt. Hopefully easier for you all than Hellhole was (I also have a nerfing update to that planned to release soon...)

Anyway, here's some screenshots:

Why make I.S. required? IMO, levels focused on I.S. tend to lack anything more than "Ooh, look what I scripted!" There are exceptions of course, but visuals/gameplay seem to take second place to the plot and scripted tricks. I've been working on and off on a level that's trying to have a good story without letting I.S. get in the way and script-things-up, but I can't even enter that because of the I.S. master race or something?

EDIT: You edited the rules, but the post still says I.S. is required. That threw me off. I'm in.
it does, where?

I forgot to add something. If your level doesn't include I.S, it won't be disqualified.
Your levels also must be posted in the thread. If you dont know how to do that than here is a video for you.

Ehh, not really my thing. I don't like levels that are full of huge swaths of wall and a rooms without much purpose or challenge. (The Chute, for example). The story could be good, but the visuals are a bit bland. Teach your brother about direct mode.

A also don't like repetitive challenges that take up an entire room, like in "Slowly but Surely." Challenges like that have been done before. Maybe put in some enemies to spice things up.  Leave less space on the top part with the conveyor.

That's actually a really pretty looking level! I would play it, but like most custom-made levels I've played, it'll probably be too hard for me...
I can play it, and I haven't beaten 33333333 easy mode yet. It's not too hard, it just seems that way because I intentionally made it so every room has numerous and varied challenges.

you'll have to teach me how to design rooms like this one day  :P

It's not hard to design rooms like that. I made a short tutorial of the making of a room for my next level, which is similar. I'll PM you.

Yes, much more work was put into looks than scripting, but there is still a story to be found. Especially if you can catch all 19 trinkets...  :vermillion:

You did download the bugfix version, right?
yeah i did and i also gave up on the second room  :P
after looking at it in-editor it looks even more beautiful
you have serious design talent

Thank you. I know that second room is hard, but you could fix it in the editor. I probably should've nerfed that part prior to release (As I did with a few other parts) but for some reason I didn't. I know it's possible to get through without invincibility, because I've tried.

Did you peek at the ved map?
