This looks really cool! I tried working on a VVVVVV fangame a couple years ago but wasn't determined enough to finish it.

This looks amazing!! Looking forward to it. Is there a particular reason for the orange player character?
My bet is the player is orange because Chell wears an orange thingyidfk in Portal.

or not idk

First off, Thanks for all the positive comments. :)

More because of orange and blue being very typical colors for Portal.
Also this color is relatively different from those in VVVVVV

I tried working on a VVVVVV fangame a couple years ago but wasn't determined enough to finish it.
I also had this problem with a few games I tried making before this. With VVOVOV I made good progress when I was starting with the game, at some point I switched over to making the Menu, may or may not have spent way too much time on the customizable Keybindings, until I eventually got the point where I spent too much time on it to just scrap the project, I definitly also had some phases where I wasn't motivated enough to work on this.

So here is a quick progress update on this project:

I'm pretty much done with the map, and am now working on the remaining minigames.
As of now I think that I should be able to complete the game in about a month.
I'll probably take about another month, for stuff like playtesting (to make sure there aren't any major embarrassing errors when I release it), setting up a website (Yes, I want my own website and not just use the first potential site, that allows me to upload files) and maybe adding some minor features.
Also because of certain real life stuff, I don't want to give any exact date:
But I think a Release at some point during September should be relatively realistic estimation.

PS: Sorry, for this being a double post.

Do you already have music lined up? (he asked, opportunistically)

Sorry, but this is actually the one major problem I'm having with this game.
I know a game like this should really have music or at least some sound :'(, but
As of now this game does not have any sounds, which comes down to two problems:

1. Me not having worked with stuff like this in java. I actually did made a game that had music a while back, but that was using external libraries, which I really didn't want. Now javafx seems to have a way to play sounds, but when I tried working with it that was rather annoying, because of a lot of obscure errors. I probably would be able to figure out how it works, giving it a bit more time, but then there is the second point.

2. I have the musical talent of a potato.
Even though it's a bit of a I never even seriously tried thing.
I did try to see if I could make something using LMMS, but everything I did was just arranging piano nodes in different patterns, and ending up with something that might not make your ears bleed, but nothing beyond that point. I don't know how to even do something in the style of VVVVVV, not even speaking of making something sound good.
Also playing instruments (when I had to in School), was in the end just muscle memory for me.

I would like to actually make some music for the game, if I were able, but ↑.
So as it looks right now, if you are going to play the game, you will probably need to find yourself some music to turn on in the background.

Sorry for shattering any hope and drifting off pretty far.

If you get number 1 fixed, we have some pretty talented musicians around, in fact, the person you're talking to is one, and, if you ask them, get some music for you.

Oh Wow, Thanks for the offers.

Let's get to the short answer first:
Designing a website is something I want to do myself.

Now to the longer answer:
With the music, I feel like I should finish the game itself first, before annoying people because of music.
I just don't want to create a situation where I have someone make music for me, when I don't know if they will actually like the final product in which it will be used.
I guess I'll work on number 1, to get the game to a point where it would support music. So that I could update it to have music afterwards.

But I would like to come back to this at some point. If that's ok.

Will you add a level editor to the fangame?

I actually plan on adding an Editor, but it's not a primary goal as of the first release.

If I add one it will probably happen in two stages:
First making an option, that reads all necessary information from text and png-files and converts it into level that can be played.
Which is similar to how I'm handling scripting as of now.
And should be doable in relatively realistic amount of time.

And if that works, I'll try making a proper level editor.

When this comes out and gets a few updates, we will PROBABLY need a subboard for VVOVOV.
Levels, discussion, bug reports... Maybe a whole forum! lets hope it has a forum games board

LET ME MAKE IT

You should actually try an xml file or a json file for levels, like VVVVVV.
Something like VVVVVV's.
Example:
Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<MapData version="2">
    <Data>
        <MetaData>
            <Creator>Kiwi Catnip</Creator>
            <Title>Aftermath</Title>
            <Desc>Description ingame!</Desc>
        </MetaData>
        <mapwidth>20</mapwidth>
        <mapheight>20</mapheight>
        <levmusic>0</levmusic>
        <!-- rooms tile by tile -->
        <contents>1: "132, 153, 623, 726, 152, 125", 2: etc...</contents>
        <edEntities>
            <edentity x="734" y="225" t="10" p1="1" p2="0" p3="0" p4="0" p5="320" p6="240">
            </edentity>

            </edentity>
            <edentity x="160" y="189" t="19" p1="44" p2="21" p3="0" p4="0" p5="320" p6="240">
