Been a while since I’ve made a VVVVVV post! Well, I’ve got two big pieces of news about it…

First up: VVVVVV is a finalist at the 2010 IndieCade Festival!

IndieCade is a festival for independent games held in Culver City, California (just outside Los Angeles), and VVVVVV is one of 32 finalists this year. It’s a real honour to be included, especially since previous finalists include games I admire hugely, like Train, Tuning and Machinarium. I’m hoping to make a special version of the game for exhibition at the event!

Secondly!

VVVVVV is now available on Steam. For less than $5.

Like they do with a lot of games, Steam are offering the game with a 10% discount for its first week, but as I’m sure visitors to this site are aware, this actually represents a far more dramatic price cut than that! That was a tough decision to make, especially since VVVVVV is my only source of income, but I know that the original price of $15 was off putting for a lot of people and I hope this means that more people will now be able to check it out ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve also updated the price from my fastspring store and the online version on Kongregate, and the price should also be updated on the other other Digital Distributors soon (GamersGate, Impulse, Direct2Drive, GetGames and GreenManGaming).

One last reminder: for new players looking for the soundtrack, it’s being sold separately by Souleye! You can get it on his website here: https://www.souleye.se/

  1. Totally snapped it up, what with Destructoid having gone on about it for so long. Only took a couple/few minutes with the you-can’t-save demo for me to say, “Yeah, this is something I’ll want to save and come back to.”

As with Eversion, I wouldn’t be surprised if I buy this again at “full” price for my sister.

Now, to finish the game so I can rightly buy and enjoy the soundtrack (unlike Tower of Heaven, which I can still only listen to less than half of).

  2. Cheers Terry!

I’ve been waiting since vvvvvv came out for this price drop! Plus the steam integration providing steamplay!

    That made my day!

I’d like to recommend also to anyone the soundtrack! I’m listening it almost every working day from last year when it came out! It is really that good ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Huge steam fan. I treat my disks horribly xD
Anyway, I saw the game and I knew I would get it. I just knew. No second to think, I just… Knew…

    Keep on making awesome games.

  4. Hi I just picked this up on steam an hour ago after hearing the good word

unbelievably good like megaman meets portal on a BBC micro but better than both.

    My brain hurts.

  5. This game was definitely worth $15, just letting you know. It’s a shame the downloadable games market is being dominated by race-to-the-bottom pricing.

    Nonetheless, congrats on this achievement!

  6. I’m very encouraged (as a developer) to see a retro-styled platform game like this on Steam. Congrats!

Love to hear how well it’s doing for you on Steam in a future post.

  7. and what about Myosotis? ๐Ÿ™ Terry, finish some more awesome games so that you can have more than one source of income ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. @Nathanel: Heh, I really want to finish that one too! Right now I’m focusing on finishing up Nexus City though. After the sale’s over I’ll think I’ll post a round up or something about some of the games I’m working on.

  9. So I’m guessing that Randomly Generated Tales Of Lies and Betrayal didn’t work out? If that’s the case, would you mind posting what you ended up with, flaws and all?

  10. Yeah, but the more projects the more things you can make and produce and learn from. While it may be tiring or stressful I’m sure you can do it Terry. =)

  11. @Feryl: It’s not going to happen unless somebody literally offers to do it for me. I’m just not interested in perusing it or doing it myself – I wanna spend my time making new games.

  12. WiiWare would be a cool perk, but I can understand that. Looks like AYIM recently made the leap to WW which is cool to see. No idea on the development effort though.
