Better late than never! Here’s a selection of games released in 2010 which I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, I now have to accept that I simply don’t have time to explain why I loved them in detail, but they’re all amazing games and I recommend you check out as many of them as you can.
They’re in the more or less arbitrary order that I’d planned to post them, with one exception; the last game I was planning to post – my favourite game from 2010 is Phenomenon 32.

Excellent list Terry. Played some, will have to try others.
Thanks! That’s high praise coming from you 🙂
Ah, thank you for filling in some of the blanks for me, as I arrived on the scene somewhat late last year. Cheers!
Also, good on you for not applying a silly ranking metric to them. 😉
Excellent list man, most of my favourites are included (bar maybe Give Up Robot 2.) There are some there I’ve missed, so this’ll act as a good to-do. It definitely is time I played Digital: A Love Story.
This is by no means a comprehensive list! I loved Give Up Robot 2 – most of the games here I actually picked because I had something in particular to say about them (though of course that seems silly now that I didn’t end up saying anything about them).
Indeed, bunch of great games. Super Crate Box really took me by surprise… I was addicted for weeks until I finally unlocked everything and got tired of playing Ambush. : P
Teppoman 2 is a lot more fun after you watch a few videos to learn the various moves available to you.
Abbaye and Hero Core are both so full of retro goodness it hurts. I love showing friends Abbaye and getting their awkward looks of, “So… what’s the catch?” : D
Terry, have you had a chance to play FoldingStory? I think a creative guy like you would really enjoy it. It’s an online version of the paper-and-pen exquisite corpse game. Lots of fun, lots of laughs, and a perfect browser-based distraction.
@Geoff: I haven’t heard of it, but I’ll check it out.
Gotta try all of them, thanks for the advices!
[…] I continue to be amazed at the high quality of games from independent developers. This post by distractionware inluced some really amazing games released last year. Go check it out and play a few. Games Of 2010 […]
Some of these games are indeed among my favorite of recent memory. Don’t know if I deserve to be among them, but I appreciate it!
@agj: In my post about Prosopamnesia, I actually planned to post about all your experiments along those lines last year, which I found fascinating!
And here’s a list which includes your name on it! 🙂

Wait, I’m pretty sure Recettear was released in 2007, not 2010…?
Though I guess most of us (not including me) played it in 2010, so, eh.
@Mushyrulez: True, but virtually everyone played it last year, when it was translated!
Thanks for making this list! Some of these games I’ve played before, and others I’m now checking out. I often wonder how small but interesting games can fall through the cracks of time and become forgotten or unnoticed by people…. and if there is a way to make these games easier to find.
[…] while looking for a snippet of code: You guys have heard of Super Meat Boy, right? It was one of my favourite games of last year! Well, if you’ve played it, you might have seen this […]
