Soul Brother is a new game by fellow Cambridge game designer Jasper Byrne, who just went full time indie today! Congratulations, dude!

I’ve played several iterations of this game over last couple of years, and it’s fantastic to finally see it finished. It’s an amazingly beautiful and personal game, and a hell of a lot of fun, too.

Guys, play this game right now. You’ll like it, I promise.

  1. Lived up to your promise, for sure!

But for the life of me, I cannot find those last two gems and those last two squares on the map…

Time for yet another play though, I think!

  2. This game is perfect.
I’ll be watching out for jasper byrne from now on.

(I can’t believe he did the music as well!)

  3. Since I posted that, I found one of the rightmost hidden gems. Still the 33rd gem eludes me! I’m guessing it has to do with the last two unexplored screens on my map, but I can’t find any way to reach them. I’ve even managed to get Nemo to the far east, but that didn’t help.

I just know I’m missing something I really should have noticed by now. I’m good at puzzles! 🙁

  4. Well, there’s two in the right hidden room – one you collect with Daisy, and one inside the blocks that you break. (To get to that area, you need to “push” the wall in)

  5. Ah, it really was as simple as not thinking to break every block in the secret room. Very careless of me!

This was a very fun game. Congrats to Jasper, for everything!

  6. I had a bit of a problem with this game, it seemed tat Flash kept missing the keydown or keyup events every so often, creating a bit of frustration form unwarranted deaths.

Hints on how to unlock some of the other fruits would be nice, but they might be there and I just missed ’em. Because of the control issues, I didn’t feel like going through a third time. (30/33 gems the first time, 33/33 gems the second time.)

  7. That was…awesome. Had a blast, unusually great music, and now I know of another good talented game designer to follow. 🙂

Do us all a favor and bug him to release the soundtrack to Soul Brother. I’ll pay good money!
