Less than a week to go before the big collection comes out, phew! I’ve been somewhat frantically working away on finalising some last minute details, but I think it’s all basically going to be ok. My big wall of post-it notes is starting to get fairly thin!

In case you missed it, yesterday I did an AMA on /r/Games, which was terrifying but went really well. Check it out if you’re interested in, e.g. my rankings of which Dark Souls games are best to play level 1 runs of!

[AMA – I’m Terry Cavanagh, indie game designer of VVVVVV, Super Hexagon, Dicey Dungeons, and some other stuff. Ask me anything!]

  1. I clicked through just for the SL1 comparisons. I think DS2 is actually really fun at SL1! You mention agility being a problem, but that’s all the more incentive to go farm up the peasant set which grants ADP. Also, you get to kill Cale early for some bonus DEX (greatly expanding your weapon selection), so that’s always fun. Really, I think DS2’s weird stat-boosting gear works super well for encouraging a different journey through Drangleic than usual.

Best of luck on the upcoming release.

    1. Haha, nice. I mean, I agree, I had a great time with it – it’s Dark Souls 2, you know?

I got the peasant set as soon as I could, which helps a lot, but I didn’t know about Cale’s Helm until pretty late, which I think is actually why I enjoyed the early part of the challenge more. Once you’ve got access to the shortbow it really changes things! My sl1 highlight was running through Brightstone with a torch in one hand and a dagger in the other!
