I’m currently taking a short break from a larger project. This is what I’m working on in between – an expanded version of Hexagon.

I work on a lot of jam games; a lot of them don’t work out at all. Hexagon did, though – as jam games go, I think it’s one of my best. But it’s still a jam game – it’s something I made in less than a day, and it’s underexplored, unpolished, and kinda broken.

I keep wondering, what would this game be like if I took it a bit further?

So, that’s what I’m doing. I don’t really know where this is going, or how much longer I’ll spend on it, but for now, I’m having a lot of fun with it.

  1. Cool! The only problem I had with the original is that progression stagnated after around 45 seconds in – after that point it was just a test of endurance. I would like to see difficulty ramp up all the time (maybe not as fast as in the beginning).

  2. I am so looking forward to this! Hexagon may have been a jam game, but I’ve come back to it over and over again since it was released. I found it to be consistently fun and addictive to play, and I’m really happy that you’re planning to revisit and improve it! It’s also a great game to play when you’ve only got a few minutes to wait for something…I swear, if you could put this on the iPhone for 99 cents, you’d probably make some money off of it!

  3. Its an awesome game, at the end of the day I think its fantastic, high score – 336 seconds.

It is relatively difficult but after a few hours of playing it scores like 150 seconds should come regularly.

This is written in flash? Were did you learn ActionScript

  4. When the original Hexagon came out around midterms it effectively crippled my studying habits. When finals started this year, I thought to myself, “Well, at least THAT can’t happen again!”

    Oh, but it can…

Anyway, I thought the original Hexagon was nearly perfect in its simplicity. I look forward to seeing where you thought it needed improvement 🙂

  5. By ‘kinda broken’, I hope you’re talking about those waves with the double 3-sides (in kinda the shape of the Nuclear/Radioactive symbol).

Those always trip me up; never enough time to escape if you’re on the wrong side XD

I eagerly await the results on this one; The original is amazing!
