The deadline has been reached! Thank you for those who participated. :) [We only got one finished entry smh.] :verdigris:

- Your level must have internal scripting, or it will be immediately disqualified.
Quote from: syminoK on January 09, 2018, 12:17:36 AM
I forgot to add something. If your level doesn't include I.S, it won't be disqualified but it will take away -2 points.
some rules need a bit or clarifying, here. if you don't use internal scripting will you be disqualified or will you lose 2 points?
but also, what counts as internal scripting?
if i include only one internal script that uses
gotoroom and all of the other scripts are simplifed, does that count?
what if i make every script in internal scripting with lots of complex cutscenes?
will those two both not lose any points/be disqualified?
i feel like using internal shouldn't be required, and that the scripting should be judged in how well it's used
if a level only uses simplified but it uses it in a way that is well executed and enjoyable to play, it might be unfair that it'd lose some points
...oof, that was a bit of a rant heh
otherwise, i think that this contest might be fun, maybe i'll join, who knows?
(also, welcome to distractionware, probably should have said that like a month ago but oh well)
I've been wanting to make a level in VVVVVV for I think six years now and I've yet to even start a level. So I might join, too.
Though like how shiny said, I think it's rather asinine that your level MUST include internal scripting. That cuts a lot of people out of this contest already if we're talking about Dware by itself. And considering the lack of (active) members around here, I'm not sure if absolutely needing I.S is exactly a fair rule, per se...
But that's just my humble opinion. So it's still your contest, your rules :P
I agree with shiny and Gawne, and I think that I.S shouldn't be required. I think a better idea would be to have I.S be worth extra points, which would allow a lot more participants to enter, and create a better incentive to try to learn I.S. (Of course this is all just my opinion, and you're free to do as you please.)
There's a level I've been working on every once-and-a-while for the past half a year, and I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out. If I finish it in time I'll submit it to this contest.

Kiwi, if you wanna do that thing where you insert your gammaplay on the thread then you can.
Count me in, my man.
Why make I.S. required? IMO, levels focused on I.S. tend to lack anything more than "Ooh, look what I scripted!" There are exceptions of course, but visuals/gameplay seem to take second place to the plot and scripted tricks. I've been working on and off on a level that's trying to have a good story without letting I.S. get in the way and script-things-up, but I can't even enter that because of the I.S. master race or something?
EDIT: You edited the rules, but the post still says I.S. is required. That threw me off. I'm in.
I'm joining :viridian:

it does, where?
I think I wanna join this. Is there a reason for the map size requirement though?

if the map is too big, it will take me too long to look through the level, and if the map is too small than it wont be interesting to me.
So are you going to be judging the levels?
Also no promises on me joining, either

you dont have too
It's been a long time, but at this point, I don't see the point in not joining. I guess I could continue the sequel for the series I was making and turn it into the contest as well, who knows.
Put a question mark and I'll make my level for the contest.
Eh, it's been a long time since this forum had a reply. :verdigris:
so uh i wont be making a level anymore (kinda lost interest) but i should still be able to judge
Is this contest over? I hope not cause I love Building contests. I posted this on 2/20/2018.

ive kinda lost motivation and internal scripting is starting to be boring
but ill try my best anyway
I've already started my level, but I didn't say I was joining until now. So, I'm joining this contest!

Nice!
def not gonna finish so i guess im dropping
Wait, so are custom graphics allowed? (One zone of my level heavily relies on custom graphics.)
Quick reminder - the deadline is today!
Alright, even though there's like 7 hours until the deadline, the first entry has been submitted! Because the level plus the graphics is over 128 kilobytes, I will use two attachments (one with the actual level and some graphics and one with more graphics).
Okay, enough with the copy-pasted message from my entry for Duckman's creator contest. I just found that it also applied pretty well to this contest's entry. Because you never said whether custom tiles were allowed or not, I'm just assuming that they are.
My level is called "Prison Escape", and in it, the crew gets trapped in a prison, and Viridian needs to help them escape. I know, a little cliché, but I had no other ideas when I started the level. So, here's the level!
Well, I'm going to give it a rating anyway, because why not.
Room Layout: an easy 5 points.
Gameplay: I'm going to go with 3 points here, as it's a bit uneven. It's tempting to give full marks just for :verdigris:'s brilliant section, but the others don't quite live up to it.
Trinkets: +1 point. I felt that these were the level's weakest point, though none of them are really truly bad.
That's a 9/10. Still a big thumbs up.
Room Layout (4.5 points):
The rooms are nice, the mix of area tiles is nice-looking. The custom graphics are also nice (although the orange death things in the Vandara section are kind of weird)
I took half a point off because you re-used quite a number of rooms from the game/the prototype, I know it's for the whole time travel concept, but it just feels a bit lazy to me.
Gameplay (4 points):
Those coins you used in the prototype section were cool, I didn't know you could use those.
Verdigris' section is amazing. The concept is great (and also reminds me of a certain flash game). Like WSM mentioned, the rest of the level doesn't live to how awesome the gimmick was. Turning into a square was pretty cool too, great use of I.S. Also was a fan of the "enlarged" section.
Trinkets (1 points):
The trinkets are ok, but some of them are a lot harder than others.
8.5/10 + 1 (for trinkets)
Solid level with cool concepts, good stuff :)
im not a judge but this level was amazing
the gimmicks were great but it was just genuinely fun!

Holy sheet, Info Teddy made a video of the entry. Didn't expect my name to be featured in it. ;-;
