Title: My first level: A Simple Dimension v0.5 (Demo)
Post by: @Kreator on March 29, 2015, 02:58:06 AM
Well, I said I'd get around to level-creating someday, so here's what I've got so far. I decided to start very simple for my first level. No internal scripting or anything, just a simple, short challenge.

Please play it and offer me your suggestions, I'm open to them. I'd even appreciate it if you actually took the level into your own level editors and added stuff that you'd like to see in it. The level's not done, but I decided to release it early as a demo while I'm still developing it. Enjoy!

Changelog:

v0.5 (Demo): (June 2)
Finished naming and building some of the rooms, added some incredibly long scripts, and actually gave the level a purpose

v0.4 (Demo): (May 17)
Fixed all the scripts and filled all the rooms

v0.3 (Demo): (May 14)
Defined a lot of what will be in the final version, including the map size, number of trinkets, and an amazingly difficult bit of internal scripting

v0.2 (Demo): (May 1)
Update including more of my work on the level

v0.1 (Demo): (March 28)
Initial release of what I'd started making

Going for one of the trinkets makes it impossible to backtrack unless you avoid checkpoints and suicide, or turn on invincibility.

The last challenge before the crewmate is practically impossible to pull off.

I think I completed it once, and it's definitely not final at all.

And I think I know about the trinket thing, which one was it again?

It's the one next to the model of the ship. I don't remember the name.

Okay. I guess it wouldn't be too much of a loss to remove the spikes in "Contemplating A Leap."

And the crewmate wasn't supposed to be where it is. I'll replace it with a pile of trinkets as a reward for completing the rage-inducing challenge in "Choose Very Wisely." I swear, it's not impossible. I just now tested that part and was able to get past the enemies and rescue the crewmate after a while.

it will be fixed soon? i can do it myself (i have a long list of fixed levels actually, too long in fact, people could at least test their own levels...) but i generally dislike having to fix a level if his current owner is still active on the forum.

Yeah, there's only been one version of this out so far, hasn't there? Gosh, I'm sorry, I believe I have fixed it. Anyway, I'm working on the level, so you should probably see something soon.

UPDATE: I've been procrastinating, so I'll set a definite release date for this thing to make myself work on it. I don't like promising stuff to people, but just wait till May 1. That's when the next version will be released.

All right, I'm done with v0.3! I put a LOT of effort into this version, especially with the one VERY tricky bit of internal scripting I did.

two things: first, there isn't any crewmate, WHT?
second: "evasion" is misaligned with the previous room, the one with the dissapearing platforms

also, please ,put the same name of the file and simply put the 0.3 or athever version it is on the title, so i can re-use the save. thx

I swear that script worked, and if it didn't, there will be a lot more working scripts in the next version (spoiler)

I guess it is, kinda, but it's no big deal.

What do you mean by that? I always rename the .zip at least

i mean, there is no crewmate to rescue! IE you cannot end the level.
and i mean that the .vvvvvv should have the same name, this way we can use the same .sav to keep testing the level

Well, that was one big maze. I thought i was supposed to find a crewmate, bur there was none and it resulted in me going in loops and then turning off the level. It really should be called " Ragequit maze" XD

The point will be to find all thirteen trinkets

Yeah, i know, but i'm that kinda guy that doesn't get any trinkets and just goes through the level to get a crewmate.

I didn't know

I'll make it clear that people need to change their normal purposes for this level

Good.  ;) Other than that, it's a nice challenge.
Big text would be cool if it actually worked

All right, releasing v0.4 now...

The differences are...
And i got a workaround for the save problem: simply changing the name of the .vvv save file will do the trick

You don't see any differences?

Nope

Well, the differences are more miniscule between non-major-update versions, but you can go here (http://www.mediafire.com/folder/xep5vcg26by9a/A_Simple_Dimension) to compare the differences between ALL the versions. (I swear I worked hard on this, especially with the scripts)

Okay, I'm now releasing my newest chunk of work on this level: v0.5! This may very well be one of the last demo versions you see before the level enters the v1 stage of development, because I'm almost done.

One thing, though: I was writing a ginormous script, and I felt like I was writing a fanfic instead of making a level. It's a lot of dialogue, and one of the scripts doesn't work. Vermilion is supposed to say something at one point, and he says nothing. If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this, let me know.

But of course, the giant script was written for the END of the level, so please, no spoilers. Beat the level yourself  :vermillion:

It happened to me a lot on Abducted Once More, that some dialogue scripts go missing and some flags glitch out and block the move and flip buttons: in your case, simply put the dialogue again and save twice, and if it does not work, keep doing it again and again until the damn script sticks to the level. doing it 3-4 times should be enough, believe me

Post by: @Kreator on June 04, 2015, 08:27:46 PM
Well isn't it running a whole bunch of scripts, so you'll have to press spacebar over and over until it works?
