Title: The Zones (Complete!)
Post by: Bearboy on June 25, 2012, 11:48:16 AM
Hello fellow VVVVVVer's...

This is a level that you'll hopefully like. I worked on it for a while. Here goes,

ZONES

This level contains 5 zones, with 5 trinkets to collect.

The zones are, as follows,

Green, Red, Blue, Yellow and, V.

This could be considered both easy and hard at some parts.
If you enjoy this level, leave your feedback, or suggestions for the future of my own levels.
If you find any bugs, please tell me and I will fix it ASAP!

If anyone needs help with any of the parts, I'll leave some hints.

Here are some screenshots.

Sorry about the big black lines surrounding the screenshots, it's the only resolution that looks like pixels.

Also sorry for not actually putting the full version on until about 10 hours later.  :viridian:

For people who don't know, the download button is next to the little paperclip
down
there

I went to the V zone...

Where is the V zone?

Why is Yellow pointless?

WHAT DO IN GREEN ZONE?  :o

HOW DID I WIN WITHOUT COMPLETING BLUE ZONE??????

guess you didn't read through my post..
the level is INCOMPLETE! i said yelow wasn't finished, and that one of the zones, as in blue, hadnt been started.
I'm still working out the kinks!

as for the green zone, i don't know what you're talking about. It works fine with no glitches, explain.

sorry, didn't notice "incomplete". Green zone, I meant the third room, it's CONFUSING and DIFFICULT :(! had to invincible.

...That room is optional.  :verdigris:

EDIT: Scratch that, lol. Thought you meant the trinket room. But the room you mentioned is very possible. Try being flipped upside down in the beginning, that will help!

yes but i have to go under the spike thing (hard) and dodge the rest without falling into spikes and making it to ze exit. I guess I'm not flipping slowly enough?

Its all about timing, you have to:
SPOILERS!
Use the grav line to go under the spike ball, then use the next grav line at the right moment before you hit the spikes on the ground!
:)
Title: Re: The Zones (Demo)
Post by: Pyrite on June 27, 2012, 01:41:50 AM
I tried that.
It's a so DIFFICULT, hmm. Also, for spoilers use [color=#E7EAEF.] (delete the period) it's unreadable unless you highlight. Same as the background.
Wait, I redownloaded and there is no update.
What.

There should be an update, yellow is finished. That's a pretty big part.
Oh No...
Blue zone isn't finished but it's there...
Time to edit!
:D

P.S This conversation is getting a bit long. :)

The yellow zone isn't impossible, I've tested it!

Just focus on the jump technique

bump.
I would appreciate it if more people played my first level so i get constructive and "mean" criticism.

I will play your level!  :viridian:
But first I have to finish my sort of long level... :victoria:

One-tiled walls/backgrounds look a bit bad. Take this arrow for example:

And why did you make this trinket impossible to get?

I find the level a bit too hard! :victoria:

It's not impossible
It's just one of those annoying suicide trinkets

How can you get it then? I don't see any way to get that trinket, because you can't even get between the spikes. Or doesn't :viridian: die until he and the spike overlap?

You have to stick your foot into it to get the trinket.
And your criticism is just what i asked for!  :viridian:
Yes, a suicide trinket...
First level is always the full of mistakes.
and about the one tile things, I know how to use direct mode now. So that won't happen again!

Looking at the posts above, I see that your level isn't perfect (a 1st level never is). A suicide trinket is bad level design. You should fix the 1-tile thin backgrounds, but I don't see a way to fix them with Direct Mode (I'm not sure of this, I don't have v.2.1.beta.). There aren't background tiles that have two opposite borders in the same tile, are they? You should also fix the 1-tile thin walls.

How did you use the iftrinkets, iftrinketsless.
I'm having a hard time using them... :victoria:

How did you use the iftrinkets, iftrinketsless.
I'm having a hard time using them... :victoria:

iftrinkets(a,b)
a is the minimum number of trinkets you should have to go to script b. So if you use iftrinkets(5,enoughtrinkets), you will go to the script called 'enoughtrinkets' if you have 5 trinkets or more.
iftrinketsless(c,d) is the opposite. If you have less than c trinkets, then you will go to the script called d.

For example, if gravity lines are blocking your path and you only want someone to be able to continue if they have 3 trinkets or more, you have two scripts, 'trinkettest' and 'enoughtrinkets':

trinkettest:
say(2)
You should have at least
3 trinkets to pass.
iftrinkets(3,enoughtrinkets)
say(3)
However, it seems you
don't have enough. Come
back when you got more!

enoughtrinkets:
say(2)
It seems you have enough
trinkets! Please continue.
destroy(gravitylines)

If you have 2 trinkets or less, it will not go the script called 'enoughtrinkets', but it will continue in 'trinkettest' and say you don't have enough. If you have 3 trinkets or more, it will jump to 'enoughtrinkets', say you have enough, and destroy the gravity lines.

I would avoid using iftrinketsless, it doesn't work for me at all! :victoria:
If I have these two scripts:

firstscript:iftrinketsless(2,other)
say
It doesn't work!

other:say
It does work!

It doesn't matter if I have 0, 1, 2 or 3 trinkets, the result is always: It doesn't work. :-X

"Iftrinketsless" is so confusing! I got it wrong tons of times!

Has anyone ever seen iftrinketsless working? If that command never works, then it's even more useless than destroy(platforms)! And has nobody ever noticed this before?

You're not the 1st one to notice that the command doesn't work. Search iftrinketsless on the VVVVVV category and you'll find at least 2 results from 2011. I don't know if it was fixed in 2.1.beta, I didn't find anything about it yet.

I know already that's not going to work, because I can't find iftrinketless in the binary. You can find iftrinketsless in the binary. And if it was iftrinketless, then why does everyone talk about iftrinketsless? Furthermore, the opposite isn't iftrinket but iftrinkets.

My fault, sorry!
Also I think I know why it doesn't work sometimes, I'll look into it further.

EDIT: I was correct!

iftrinketsless() checks the trinket data in unlock.vvv (<stat_trinkets>N</stat_trinkets>) which is wrong on many levels. iftrinkets() doesn't do this.

Post by: Dav999 on August 05, 2012, 10:00:11 PM
Are trinkets saved in unlock.vvv? ??? Not in the other two saves? Because you can have a teleporter save and a quick save with different progress...

And if it really checks in the save file: how many levels have been broken by this?
