Title: They should have an editor for the 3DS version of VVVVVV.
Post by: A quite MEDICal Derpfish on December 28, 2012, 01:47:40 am
It might be hard to manipulate with the stylus, but, honestly, why leave DS players out (Implying they don't have a computer version, like me).

Or at least have some sort of way to get one console version for free if you can prove you've BOUGHT at least one version. Like with what Minecraft does.

It might be hard to manipulate with the stylus,

Not if you're able to zoom in. Like, you can have a preview of the entire room on the top screen while it's being created (zoomed in) on the bottom screen.

Wow, let's all think of how the editor would work.

Analog pad: move around the zoomed in room on the bottom screen.
D-pad: move to different rooms
SELECT: ESC-menu
START: playtest the level
X: direct mode
Y: shift menu (change color, tileset, enemies, ...)
A: space menu (wall, backing, spikes...)
B: eraser tool
L&R: change tools

What do you think?

This.  Having an editor for the 3DS version would take away the fact that it was a complete ripoff.  Turns out I can't run the comp version anyway, but still...

I've read that Nicalis has already decided that they won't make a level editor for the 3DS, as only 5% of... certain people (I don't know) said that they would like one.

Still, I would like to think how it would be:

Also, the stylus would insert the object.
It would be a good idea if you could select the tools with the stylus when space menu is showed.
Perhaps swap Direct Mode with play testing? X is easier to use than START, and I think that players would play-test more than use Direct Mode.

There wasn't any real demand for it, is how I understood it as.

Still, it should be pretty trivial to at least allow us to import levels from the SD card to be honest...

Oh, and $7.99 = €7.99, isn't it? ::) (Well, at least it is in the eShop)

Yeah, I thought of that, too. I mean, it's already supported in such a way that there are some standard player levels, so why wouldn't other levels be supported?

I remember buying it for 5 dollars, maybe they changed the price or something.

Well, first, the PC version was $15, but that was only the price of the 1.2 version, I guess.

15 dollars? That makes no sense.  :o

A $15 price tag was indeed what it used to be.

It was lowered with 2.0, you know because 2.0 was worse than 1.2. Or is it? :P

(that, or because so many places complained on that it was too expensive to be worth it)

Small Idea: Via. Streetpass or some way to upload/download levels, you can share what you've made.

Google Streetpass if you don't know what it does.

I suspect it was lowered before, like when it was released on Steam.
I once read something about that, but I can't find it now... I'll search more.
Anyway, I first got VVVVVV in the Mac App Store, which had 1.2. (and still has). The price was surely less than 15$... perhaps 5$? I don't live in the US.
EDIT: Yes, it was lowered in September 2010, found an old post saying that:

(and as a "steamer", I do appreciate the significant discount from your original $15.

Still, there's a chance that it was a temporary discount.
