In case you haven't seen it, Terry's released a patch (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=159.0)! Hopefully this will fix all your problems. If you've installed the patch and still are finding bugs, go ahead and report them in the patch's thread (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=159.0). Happy V-ing!
--StephenM3
Have a bug to report? Reply here and tell Terry about it. Try to keep spoilers to a minimum. Let's try not to have a whole new topic for every bug we find on release, let's just consolidate them here.
-
Bugs happen. We know this. Hopefully, this thread won't have much activity. But it's good to prepare for eventualities, and have a centralized place to put them so that they can be addressed and fixed.
-
Very good idea though :) Stickyied!
-
uh oh :/ I got to the Gravitron through normal play at the second intermission, and I paused the game. it asked me if I wanted to go back to the "secret laboratory," and I spaced out and pressed yes. It warped me to "outer space" instead (just some black and grey void) where I can't get out. I can quit back out to the beginning of the intermission level, but I lost my progress on the Gravitron.
-
Not sure how much of a "bug" this is, but the Mac app is a little wonky. I'd recommend disabling resizing the window-- it screws up the pixels in a major way, and I think it's also responsible for the ugly border along the right side and bottom. Also, just as a side question, how is full screen meant to look?
I've just started playing, so its all familiar from the beta so far, but I'm so incredibly exited!
-
I'm on windows and this is what full screen looks like to me:

I unlocked Time Trials the regular way, but it isn't grayed out under Unlock Play Modes. Not sure if this is intended or a bug.
-
Definitely a bug: when I try to return to the ship in the middle of The Tower, it doesn't work, the player dies, and then loses all control including the menu. The only way out is to close the program.
(Sorry, Terry. Bug reports on day one suck.)

That's pretty much anti-aliasing/tv filter/etc - you often see that sort of thing in emulators for consoles like the SNES and on actual hardware of the era which V6 stylistically mimics. That's pretty close to what a Commodore 64 would look like if it was connected to a TV ...
I have a typo report - "If wonder what we'll find?" :)

If you want the game to look sharper, switch to windowed mode and then click maximize. ( '.')b

Thanks for the reports - the gravitron one is kinda hilarious :)
I think I'm going to add some buttons for the player to change the flash settings for screen smoothing and hardware acceleration manually in the options in the first patch (hopefully today or tomorrow) - it only really works if *both* are enabled, otherwise there's kind of a blurry effect.
-
I manually saved my game at Doing Things The Hard Way and quit (was getting a little too frustrated!). I restarted the game just now and not only did it put me at my last teleporter, it also wiped out a big chunk of my stats.. I've only got 24 minutes and ~100 deaths now.

When you "CONTINUE," you get two options: "CONTINUE FROM LAST TELEPORTER" or "CONTINUE FROM QUICK SAVE." You probably accidentally selected the "CONTINUE FROM LAST TELEPORTER" option.

I tried again and that option didn't come up.. I figured out what happened: In that map/options screen, I moved to Save, pressed the Enter key, then it went back to the game and assumed that it had saved my game. Turns out that only the Action Button does anything and Enter just closes the menu.. That's really confusing to me. Feels like the menu should appear by pressing Escape and the action button *and* enter should activate stuff in it.
-
SPOILER ALERT!
... Ok you are warned. After dying in "Prize for the reckless" and respawning, having freed the moving platform, the destructible platforms respawned, and one of them spawned INSIDE the moving platform, causing it to go pingpong in and out of that block, effectively preventing it from moving across the screen. Dying didn't help. Had to redo the run, and time it so that the moving block was well out of reach of the respawning blocks.
-
In the Kongregate demo:
If you play Space Station 1, then quit in the middle to the menu, then play Laboratory, the dialog will be all messed up. Sometimes it will have Veridian act out the opening scene, in the middle of the lab. It's quite funny, actually.
-
Possibly a related behaviour?
Disabling the quit menu during cinematics doesn't quite seem to work-- it can still pop up during the off-dialogue frames. If you quit while doing that, it'll let you go back to menu, but when you start the game again it'll continue the cinematic.
Even when it shouldn't:
spoiler, sorta (http://grab.by/1Goa) /Terry
-
Oh my :o
-
if you do intermission2 and quit it sends you to outer space and you just keep rotating and rotating until you press escape to leave. bug or intended behavior?
-
Hit a nasty bug. Playing with it full screen I alt+tabbed out, and then when I went back, I couldn't unpause it. Further experimenting with that revealed that it's actually just that it never updates the graphics. From the sounds, I could still play it, but I just wouldn't see it.
Sounds like a Flash projector problem, though. Not sure if you can actually do anything about it. :(
Doesn't happen in windowed. And windowed+maximized looks nicer anyway.
-
Oh man, another one. After beating it, go to The Tower and select ship from the menu. If the spikes get you while the teleportation flashing and popping are still going, he dies, but then you can't control him when it restarts you at the last checkpoint :(
-
This one had me doubting myself:
If you're spawning from the room "I'm Sorry", then you cannot go straight towards the purest unobtainium trinket without first spawning in "Please forgive me". There's an issue whether or not the head of the guy bounces thru the line a little or not, depending on where you start. It's small enough to make it impossible. I tried 491 times, feel free to try yourselves.
Edit: Apparently it depends which way you were flipped when you start the journey.
-
My experience with flipping is that if you run off a ledge, you wind up moving slower through the air then if you flip off a surface (and consequently, don't bounce as much). Though maybe I'm talking about something totally different from your experience.
Fun times! I was playing through Undying and made it to Space Station 2 before dying. I continued, and it loaded my undying game--in which I had skipped most of the trinkets. Consequently, I didn't have any of them. I played through, went back, got the trinkets... and still only had 18! I scratched my head and realized I'd forgotten the ones in the starting area.
After going back into the Space Station 1 teleporter to work my way backwards... Veridian promptly said, "A teleporter! I can get back with this!" I went into Quicksand, and the game hint to use arrows for flipping popped up. I went into Trench Warfare and got the cutscene regarding trinkets. When I got my trinkets and went back through the teleporter, it brought up the cutscene with Violet and told me that I'd completed the level and finally rescued all my crewmen. Except the others were now missing.
I had 20 trinkets and no crewmates. Weird.

Yes, it's a bug, but it's totally hilarious. I think Terry left that one in there on purpose. :viridian:

Fullscreen doesn't work on Wine. Can we get a version that starts in windowed mode just like the demo, which works fine, until you get the Linux version ready?
-
I was in The Tower & i tryed teleporting back to ship from the Enter Menu, but it diden't teleport, all the controls stoped working & it just kept restarting the level back form the last checkpoint

I'm in the final area, on flip mode, and at the bottom of the screen, where if I remeber correctly it should show the room name, it says 'glitch'

Haha, wow - that's an interesting one ;D
(the room names for any room that "glitches" or "changes" are just stored as "glitch" and "change" and there's a bit of code that works out what it *actually* is - but I guess I forgot to include it in the menu code :) )
-
I've had the game freeze when saving after completing a level more than 6 times now. The screen with the teleporter I went through stays up and the music continues, but no further action is possible. It did actually save, though.

I encountered this as well.

I found this one kind of funny, to be honest. I was playing through again tonight to test how fast I could do it, and I paused the game inside the Gravitron in Intermission 2 (I wanted to see how many times I had died so far). When I paused the game, it asked "Do you want to return to the Secret Laboratory?" And, just to see what would happen, I clicked yes. It teleported me to "Outer Space" where Veridian just falls through the screen endlessly, and the Pipe Dream secret lab music is playing. This also works if you go into Play Modes and select Intermission 2.

On the Mac, VVVVVV sets itself as the default application for opening swf files, presumably because it includes a standalone Flash player. Double-clicking on swf files results in VVVVVV opening, in addition to the file you click on.
(VVVVVV is awesome by the way. I just finally managed to get all 20 shiny things today :viridian:)
-
Another mac bug.
I can't hide VVVVVV, either via the keystroke shortcut or the menu.
-
Ooh, I found a sad one.
Start No-Death mode, exit to main menu. Will get shown "Continue Game" but the old save is gone. I don't know if merely accessing No-Death mode will clobber the save, but, since you can't save in that mode anyway, it really shouldn't!
-
Three general bugs. Note I'm not using any special modes, just standard play:
1) Reloading a Quicksave in The Tower results in the player spawning offscreen and dying immediately before the camera catches up. This is why my current file has three deaths. ;)
2) If you die while still on a (vertically-oriented) flip wire, the player spawns slightly over the checkpoint and a "plink!" from the wire is heard. There appears to be no other effect.
3) It's possible to get caught on the lower wire of the Gravitron in Intermission 2, flipping endlessly back and forth without moving. I couldn't tell you for the life of me how I managed to do that.
Also, is it intended behavior to be able to run across spikes oriented like this?

PS: how do you intend to roll out the new binaries as you fix bugs? :)

Mac version bugs:
1. Game stops upon reaching the first teleporter
2. Quiting the game all saves are gone.

Mac version bugs:

2. Quiting the game all saves are gone.
Those are interesting bugs... I've never had those happen with my mac... strange.
-
One additional minor bug:
There's a name conflict between normal play and Time Trials in "Prize for the Reckless". In the latter case, the name appears as, "Imagine Spikes There, If you Like it". Not game-breaking, but noticeable. :)
-
Umm.. that's not a bug ;-)

For some strange reason, I didn't even notice. Doing the time trial I just blazed through that room expecting not being able to get it. LOL
Perhaps I really did imagine spikes there?
-
Umm.. that's not a bug ;-)
(Post flattened, because this is expected behavior:
How can I make this sentence shorter without losing any information? "Pretend the spikes are there if you like" ["if you like" is important]
(it's for if you get to the "prize for the reckless" trinket while playing the time trial, the room is slightly different)
(if you get there in no-death mode, the room is called "I can't believe you got this far")
Yes, I feel foolish. :-X)
-
Actually, the room's name is changed to that because some spikes that are normally in that room are missing in the Time Trial. (Otherwise a V rank would be impossible.) The name change reflects the difference in the room. (If you look back a ways in Terry's twitter, he was asking people for help in regards to the wording for that room name.)
-
I went back and looked. Seeing as I missed that thread, and completely didn't pay attention to the spikes, point rescinded. ;)
Thanks for the follow-up. :)

Bam. (http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l321/MutoidLog/vvvvvvbug.jpg)
Go next to any character, press enter and then immediately esc into the menu. When you start another game anywhere, you can keep talking to the character. In the normal modes attempting to talk again usually results in being teleported away. But in time trial, he/she stays there and even if you walk away, you can talk when you come back, unless you leave the room.
Doing this with 20-trinket Victoria and the final level time trial has hilarious consequences.
-
Just played through the demo... game looks brilliant so far!
Only thing I've found wrong (and believe me, I've looked!) is the room name "Exausted?"
This is probably supposed to have an 'h' and be spelled "Exhausted?", right?
Can't wait to play the rest!! :D
-
Well, this is serious. :verdigris:
http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l321/MutoidLog/trinkets.jpg (http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l321/MutoidLog/trinkets.jpg)
I'm not sure of the exact requirements, but it does happen when you go to Victoria's room the first time with 19 trinkets, her having the last one. After Viridian's monologue, do the enter+esc with Victoria and then go to a time trial. Not only do the graphics screw up, but you get a whopping two extra trinkets. While it's only hilarious in the final level (world record: 3/1 trinkets!) and makes you miss the par in The Tower, the impact is huge on all other stages. This makes getting V much easier... :victoria:
-
:vitellary:
I suspect that's a relative of the whole not-resetting the script problem when exiting the game, but I didn't realise that it would cause any game breaking problems. I'll catch it in the update.
-
Ok! Here's a list of things I'm going to add/fix for the first patch:
- Support more flexible graphical options; enable/disable screen smoothing, hardware acceleration, manual screen zooming as individual options.
- Allow the player to relock things from the unlock menu; clarify the purpose of the menu.
- Add a quick restart button to the time trials.
- Make Viridian sad if he's missed the par time on a time trial.
- Game will default to a window to allow linux users to play the windows version through WINE or CrossOver.
- Warping back to ship from tower breaks the game.
- Final level room names don't reset as they should.
- Room names in menu bar aren't reported properly for final level "glitch" and "change" rooms.
- Minor room name issue if you quit the intermission stages from the menu.
- Trying to quit during the Gravitron bug.
- "If wonder what we'll find?"
- Prize for the reckless platform glitch.
- Scripts are not reset when restarting the game (if you quit during a cutscene, the cutscene will continue when you start a time trial or other game mode).
- Possible issue with teleporter-one flag not being set if you revisit the first space station level?
- Is No Death Mode overwriting saves? It shouldn't be! Investigate!
- Quicksaving in the tower doesn't default to the correct camera position.
- Room death counts should be reset on game start.
- 21st Trinket bug.
- Teleporter cutscene mix up if playing in no death mode
- It's possible to bring up the menu from the "game complete" screen, and break the game if you try to teleport back to the ship this way.
There are a few other reported issues that are just a result of the way the standalone flash player works, and unfortunately aren't really things I can fix...
Hoping to have the linux version and first patch released together. If there's anything on that list I've missed, please let me know!
-
Ok! Here's a list of things I'm going to add/fix for the first patch:
I assume from this list that the slipperiness is intentional and won't change in the future?
-
There is some horizontal inertia in the character's movement, but the "slipperiness" you seem to be talking about is an issue with flash on your system that I'm not able to fix. Sorry.

Just encountered this one myself... Very strange! I think I know what the problem is. Added it to the list.
-
Found one: Starting a new game in invincibility mode works, but, after saving and coming back, it forgets that you were invincible for that play-though.
-
So I tried redownloading and re-installing. Didn't help.
Tried installing the latest version of Flash and restarting the computer. Still not helping.
So basically at this point I can play through to the first teleporter and thats it. If I quit, I have to start over.
Relevant technical info:
Mac OS 10.6.2
Flash version 10.0.42.34
vvvvvv version 10.0.42.34

krizoitz: I don't know what exactly, but there is something up when flash tries to write to your local storage cache. Have you disabled it? Try another flash game (not VVVVVV), right click on it and go to properties and make sure you're allowing some storage space...

PERFECT! Made it to the next level with no sign of wonky behavior! Not sure how it happened, but thanks for the fix!
-
Oh, excellent! :viridian:
-
You know how in the tower since it scrolls if you save and then reload you die before the screen scrolls up to where you are?
Well not sure if you already found out, but it happens in any of the scroll rooms. Which makes sense, I guess.
So the room called The Final Challenge and one other in the level where Viridian goes missing also need to be adjusted.
Umm... probably a few other scrolling rooms i can't think of...
-
Yep, don't worry :)
There's no save point in Panic Room, so it's not an issue there. *should* be easy enough to fix that particular bug anyway.
I'm way overdue with this patch - hopefully I can get it finished tomorrow. :victoria:
-
Take your time Terry. :viridian:
The game is amazing already. Just minor things really.
You did really well.
I'm still playing it almost every other day.
I just got the trophy for less than 50 deaths.
Yay!
-
The mouse cursor doesn't go invisible when you're in full-screen, probably the most annoying bug for me. :victoria:
-
True, it is a slight incovenience, but I'm not sure if it can be considered a bug or not... :verdigris:
-
Well a bug is something that shouldn't happen, right?
-
Yes, but I think it may have just been forgotten as opposed to it shouldn't be happening.
Either way I'm all up for it being fixed.
-
Well, I added it to the list, it shouldn't be a big deal. :)
-
Here also a bug with the shiny trinkets...
I'll tell you step by step what happened
1) Vitellary gave me one and told me that they give of weird energy and every trinket appeared on the map.
2) I explored a bit, got some trinkets, quicksaved the game and exit.
3) I started the game again and loaded it, but accidentally loaded a teleport save (by the way, you should add the option 'load newest save file')
4) I exit the teleport save file and loaded my quicksave, discovering that the shiny trinkets disappeared from the map...
5) After finishing some levels, Victoria gave me a shiny trinket and told me the same thing Vitellary already told me, and the trinkets appeared on the map again.
6) After some hard work I got 19 trinkets, but suddenly there were 2 (!) trinkets on the map. I went to one of them, and discovered it was the second trinket in the game (in the first part)
7) I got the trinket (which I already got earlier, at the beginning of the game) and Victoria told me that I had 20 trinkets (I still had only 19 of them)
8) I got into the 'place where you get when you have every trinket' with only 19 trinkets, and I also have the trophy for finishing the game. Still don't have the real 20th one...
some screens:
http://i47.tinypic.com/33d9iyw.jpg (http://i47.tinypic.com/33d9iyw.jpg) (spoiler, shows the whole map+a trinket location)
http://i50.tinypic.com/mmzc74.jpg (http://i50.tinypic.com/mmzc74.jpg) (shows that I have only 19 trinkets, while victoria tells me I've got them all)
http://i47.tinypic.com/eu4gwj.jpg (http://i47.tinypic.com/eu4gwj.jpg) (shows that the stats tell me that I have 20 trinkets)
All the screens were taken right after each other, so I didn't do anything special between taking the screens.
I hope you can fix this ^^
-
Not sure if this has been mentioned, I only skimmed through this thread.
I quicksaved in The Tower, and when i went back to it the screen starts at the very bottom. I then die and it scrolls all the way back up to where I am.
just found another bug too.
When I'm in the gravitron (normal, not super) I went to the menu and it asks if i want to return to the secret lab. Upon selecting return, I end up in outerspace with the secret lab music.
-
I'm still working on the patch - fixed all these issues so far:
* Warping back to ship from tower breaks the game.
* Prize for the reckless platform glitch.
* Trying to quit during the Gravitron bug.
* Final level room names don't reset as they should.
* Room death counts should be reset on game start.
* Add a quick restart button to the time trials. (this took a lot of code reshuffling, but is totally worth it)
* "If wonder what we'll find?"
* Make Viridian sad if he's missed the par time on a time trial.

Whoa, he just landed there and stayed blue till the screen scrolled up and got him!
At least that's what it looked like to me.

when i saved the first guy (it was the yellow one) and we arrived to the ship's teleporter, i went back into it but nothing happened... i was like teleporting myself forever

another bug... sometimes moving platforms can get through your body collistionin by the torso
-
this may be the stupidiest bug, but if you're using rocketdock or objectock, and you drag n drop the vvvvvv shorcut into it, the display icon shows a flash file icon and there“s no way to change it for the one embedded in the exe file
-
In case you haven't seen it, Terry's released a patch (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=159.0)! Hopefully this will fix all your problems. If you've installed the patch and still are finding bugs, go ahead and report them in the patch's thread (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=159.0). Happy V-ing!
