VVVVVV / Re: Reviews of VVVVVV on the net
February 11, 2010, 03:30:17 AM
IGN reviewed the game today (2/10) and gave VVVVVV a 75, here's the full review: http://pc.ign.com/articles/106/1068331p1.html

It looks like the reviewer doesn't really know the game well. Under gameplay he mentions wishing for controller support, and under lasting appeal he makes no mention of the time trials, flip mode, super gravitron, and no death mode, instead he uses the word "collectibles" which makes it sound like he never made it to the secret lab.

Wow! ;D

(it's a pity you didn't have the sound effects on that video, though - it makes it hard to prove that you didn't just use the slowdown feature and sped up the video...)

Actually if you look at the clock in the lower right hand corner you can see only one minute elapses, meaning he couldn't have possibly just increased the recording speed unless he also edited the video. I would say the video has a high chance of being legitimate and not done in slow motion, but that's just my opinion.

Well, that's a new one. I stand thoroughly corrected.

Well done, you inhuman cyborg monstrosity! :viridian:

How's this for inhuman (and yes, this is literally inhuman): http://bayimg.com/AAKfbAaCC

NOTE: This is not a legitimate score, it's just for a laugh :viridian:

I think this is where I give up :victoria:

I won't even make a serious attempt at No Death Mode until I can beat the Gravitron with no deaths at least 1/3 of the time, which will probably mean I never make a serious attempt :victoria:

At least I will always have my successful attempt using a certain exploit, although now it's thankfully closed.

I hope it's just you! :o

Did you rename the file? Or move it? The save file is tied to your location on the hard drive...

Hmm, well I know that the updater's default location was different from mine (I have "Program Files (x86)" instead of just "Program Files"), and I don't remember moving any files around before or after the update. I'm not seeing any duplicate files in the VVVVVV directory either. Strange.  :verdigris:

In either case, it gives me an excuse to play it again.  :viridian:

But that I have to re-earn my V ranks.  :victoria: (thankfully not on Space Station 2 yet)

Look for the old save files on your hard drive as they may still exist. Do a search for dwvvvvvv_unlock.sol and dwvvvvvv_tele.sol and make sure to search hidden files and directories, and you may be able to find them if they still exist.

- Invincibility toggle is now remembered when you quit; fixes exploit.

That's a very important update, hopefully you also changed the victory screen on No Death Mode to now make it easy to distinguish between those possibly using the invincibility exploit on V1.0 and those honestly beating the mode on V1.1.

Great job on the patch, it's very appreciated.

I'm wondering how he managed to get the proper "win" screen for beating it, though. Maybe it is legit! :viridian:

It might be legit, but it's possible to get the win screen with some creativity: http://bayimg.com/BakBGAacb

Unfortunately without the rest of the video there's just no real proof :victoria:

Plus we all want to see a single run video anyway, so we can watch in awe and amazement.

Basically, you can edit the save file in your flash cache to unlock any trophy you like, if you're so inclined. But it's not like that's the *real* reward for beating No Death Mode. You're only cheating yourself!

You've revealed the big secret, now let's see how many images of the Master of the Universe trophy start popping up ;)

That means what's far more valuable than an image of the trophy is a picture of whatever victory screen comes up after beating No Death Mode.

So since my method has been revealed, I'll post the link to the picture of the Master of the Universe trophy since more people will soon unlock the trophy the easy way. Please only look at it if you don't mind having the mystery spoiled:

Well that's no fun  :victoria:

If you want to see the trophy then just ask. I just don't feel the big reveal on the board should come from someone who found another way to unlock the trophy, it should be from someone who actually managed to beat the No Death Mode and be part of the reward for doing so :)

A real pro would have made it to at least 2 minutes ;)

Amazing job KingOreO, I certainly can't imagine learning all of the patterns and developing the proper muscle memory to instantly react and survive for as long as even 30 seconds, let alone 1 minute.

This forum is too small for this... half of the recent posts have been NDM trolling.

I won't even try before I can one-shot the gravitron...
I honestly have unlocked the trophy, but as SoulEye said I don't think it's fair to post the image and spoil it on the board. I will send you my screen shot if you want proof (and don't mind having the surprise spoiled), just ask if you want to see it, and that goes for anyone who can agree to not post the image on the board.

Again, I want to emphasize that I am not the first one to beat No Death Mode, but I did find an alternate way to unlock the trophy, and I have already sent my screen shot to Terry to show him it's possible.

Well, it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, but I finally got the Master of the Universe trophy, which is why I joined the forum. For those wondering what it looks like, I'll drop a somewhat vague spoiler (highlight, copy, and paste to read if interested): it's been right under your nose the entire time!

I also have a screen shot of the trophy for anyone interested, but I wasn't sure if I should post it here.

BTW, if you want to know my secret to make getting the trophy a great deal easier, then read this spoiler: you don't have to beat No Death Mode to earn the trophy, I'm honestly not that amazing at this game
