VVVVVV Levels / PPPPPP

Here is the next alphabet level. I haven't been on the forums for months now but PPPPPP and QQQQQQ are finished so QQQQQQ should be out soon. I'm not saying I'm back to posting regularly, I might take another hiatus if I'm busy or bored of VVVVVV but the next two alphabet levels are coming soon.

With this level, I tried something different and made 5 vertical sections instead of horizontal. It's not something that will be repeated in the levels, just a one-off for this one so I made the level have a haunted / monster theme.

PS. Did you notice some of the space station rooms were edited from another alphabet level

PPS. After this post, my alphabet levels aren't going to have screenshots. Sometimes when I finish making a level, it takes ages to take screenshots, upload them to imgur and then put them in the post so I'd be able to release levels quicker without screenshots.

LLLLLL is finally done! Sorry I haven't posted in months, I just haven't been playing VVVVVV much lately but I'm back with the next alphabet level.

Also, if anyone remembers, I announced a collab just before I stopped using the forums and I will still finish that so uugr, cheesefactory & 5tr3 can you finish and send your entries through soon because I want to release that level soon...

VVVVVV Levels / Animals (COLLAB/WIP)

For my next level, I'm going to make my first ever collab. A while ago, I started making a 10 x 10 map with 10 areas based on different animals. I never finished it so I thought I should make a collab. I have attached what I have made so far at the bottom (some of the rooms are a bit messy because I made the level so long ago.)

Rules:


  • Entries must be 10 rooms wide and 1 room high. Send me your entries separate from the original level (as .vvvvvv or .vvvvvv.zip files) and name them after the animal your area is based on.

  • Each entry has to be based on an animal and the first room has to look like the animal (see what I have made so far as an example).

  • Don't put any crewmates in your entry- there will only be 1 at the end of the level. Also, try to limit yourself to only 1 trinket (or 2 if you have to).

  • You can send as many entries as you like

  • Each animal area should be mostly the same colour throughout. You can still switch tilesets as long as the colour is the same (use my areas as an example).

  • Add music to your area if you want. The music can change in different rooms.
  • Please don't make your entry too difficult. You can have some hard rooms but nothing too annoying or pixel-perfect.

If you want to enter, post a reply in the comments with the animal your 10 rooms will be based on. I will update the OP when you have entered.

VVVVVV Help / Level wont open

I started making a custom level a few days ago and now every time I load it in the level editor, VVVVVV crashes.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?

KKKKKK is finkally here!
Sorrky it took so long to finkish, the level file was glitkhing okut and somehow some of the rokoms have been korrupted.

I haven't uploaded any levels in ages but I'm in the middle of KKKKKK. After finishing KKKKKK, I want to make a giant level similar to dimension colour and I wanted your ideas on what I should make. Here is a sneak peak of KKKKKK:

1. Space Station- All of these rooms are in French. I did this because I know a little bit of French and lots of words (including the word for yellow) begin with 'J'. Jaune :vitellary:
2. Outside- Hardest set of rooms (espacially 'Jungle'). Jam :vermillion:
3. Lab- Some medium rooms with a trinket. Jordy Blue :victoria:
4. Warp Zone- Starts with 3 month rooms and ends with a difficult crew room. For some reason there is a glitch in the crew room where rescuing Verdigris turns the music off. Jade :verdigris:
5. Ship- I used the same room name for all 4 of these rooms (sorry uugr, i know you wont like this.) In the 4 rooms you wind up a jack-in-the-box. Jelly :violet:

Probably the hardest alphabet level so far. The final row of rooms are the trickiest and the first 2 trinkets are very annoying. The 2nd row of rooms are all country flags (apart from the crewmate room)

VVVVVV Levels / Dimension Colour

Dimension colour is finally done!  :viridian:
If you missed the sneak peeks, dimension colour is a HUGE 20 x 20 map with various colour themed zones and a custom tileset.
The map has 7 trinkets, 11 crewmates to rescue and a hub so you can replay any level to get missing trinkets.
Zones:

Cyan Zone  :viridian:

Overview: A small easy tower with wraparound rooms and the ship tileset.
Trinkets: 2
Size: 9 rooms

Pink Zone :violet:

Overview: Love-themed lab area with fake gravity lines.
Trinkets: 2
Size: 9 rooms

Yellow Zone :vitellary:

Overview: Desert-themed area with quicksand and some wrapping rooms.
Trinkets: 0
Size: 11 rooms

Blue Zone :victoria:

Overview: Small maze with the outside tileset and fragile gravity lines that disappear after one flip.
Trinkets: 1
Size: 12 rooms

Green Zone :verdigris:

Overview: A full 20 room long tunnel with wrapping, warp-zone rooms and an optional trinket path.
Trinkets: 1
Size: 21 rooms

Orange Zone

Overview: A creepy but easy house of horrors with some automatic conveyor rooms.
Trinkets: 1
Size: 11 rooms

Red Zone :vermillion:

Overview: You start off here, and it ends here. Finally find out who kidnapped the crew and escape their evil last levels.
Trinkets: 0
Size: 17 rooms

At the end of the red zone, you are warned not to power the dimension down, but you do it anyway...

The Whole Map:


I originally wanted to use the whole 400 rooms but I realised I made the first few zones too small and would have ended up with some good rooms and lots of pointless filler. In the end, I picked quality over quantity.

How to install custom tiles:
1. Download the tiles from the attachment below.
2. Double click to unzip the file.
3. Find your VVVVVV folder (you can do this by searching for "~/Library/Application Support/vvvvvv" on a mac or "<username>/Documents/VVVVVV" on windows.
4. Drag and drop the customised tiles into your graphics folder. If you don't have one make one.
5. Rename the customised tiles to "tiles2".
6. Load up VVVVVV and the tiles will be working.
7. To turn the custom tiles off just delete them or move them from your graphics folder.

VVVVVV / Fun Things To Do: Messing Around With Tiles

I was messing around with custom tiles the other day and found something really cool / trippy you can do with tilesets.

First of all you use one of the game's original tilesets (attatched at the bottom) and drag one of them into the graphics folder in your VVVVVV folder. If you don't have a graphics folder just make one.


Once you have done this, rename the tiles to a different tileset. e.g. rename tiles2 to tiles3.
This confuses the game and makes it load the wrong tiles for different areas. (tiles is used for the space station, tiles3 is used for the tower and tiles2 is for everything else)

Here are some images of what could happen:




To return your game back to normal just delete everything in the graphics folder.

Dimension Colour Update:
I have finished making the level but I still need to test it altogether and fix bugs / make finishing touches. It will probably be released within the next 2 weeks.

Non-level related update
I haven't released any levels in a while but I have finished the alphabet levels from E-H and will release these in the next through weeks. I am also making a massive 20x20 map with a full story and custom textures and I will release some sneak peeks of this with my next levels.

VVVVVV Help / Software For Making Texture Packs

I'm trying to make a custom texture pack for my next VVVVVV level but I'm not sure what to use to make one. I'm on a mac so the default is preview (which is really bad for editing textures.) What should I use / download to edit textures?

Summary:
Using FIQ's dimension VVVVVV, I have re-edited and re-created every area (excluding the tower).
There are some new twists like having no warps in the warp zone and a lab with some missing gravity lines.
I have walled off most of the outside areas so you play each zone in order and don't have to spend ages finding them.

Main Points:

  • Crewmates: 6
  • Trinkets: 10
  • Avg. Playtime: About 15 minutes (with all trinkets)
  • Order of areas: SS1, Lab, Warp Zone, SS2

Bugs & Errors:
When I started making the map, I wasn't going to release it so a few rooms look a bit messy.
There is also a glitch in the room 'Dash Under'. For some reason touching enemies teleports the enemies and conveyors to the middle of the room- it is still possible though.
