Just something I'm curious about... what determines where you start in the music?

Is it random, does it depend how far you got on your last run, does it go in order or what?

Would be nice to know the answer to this one, though I'm guessing "random".
VVVVVV Levels / Re: "CCCCCCCCCC Retold" by Whirligig

Whoo, I actually managed to finish this one (I gave up on level 4 I think on original C10...)

The last few rooms were really, really frustrating though. Toad in the Hole especially.

I love what you did with It's Hard to Forget (or whatever it's called) and the shock tokens. And PEARL'S GRAVITRON :vermillion:

I did kinda undermine the invisible block area though by standing up so that I could view the screen from a funny angle...

Using Piercing the Sky for the last level also kinda ruined things, not directly, it's a great song, but for some reason that song is ridiculously loud compared to the others, so I just had to unplug my headphones as it was deafening :S

If only you could use the F10 music in V6!

I thought this was a complaint about not being able to listen to the music in the editor, but I was pleasantly surprised  :viridian:

(It'd be great if we could somehow choose to play music in the editor without using such interesting quirks, though...)
VVVVVV / Positive Force + Pushing Onwards
February 06, 2012, 11:45:28 PM
After seeing Souleye's comment on this video, I had to try it!

My comment on the video:
QuoteI had to overlap them a bit, but it matches completely naturally, and even weirder, the mix as a single track loops more naturally than original Positive Force did, at least IMO!

I uploaded it (as FLAC) for the convenience of anyone interested:
(hopefully that doesn't count as shock horror copyright infringement, it's not really much different to uploading it on YouTube and really, anyone who likes the music should go buy it if  they haven't already, but hey a mod can easily remove the link if need be)

This will be staying in my playlist as a single track now  :)

However, now that I've confirmed the two songs are indeed made from the same "base", it makes me wonder even more why they're used where they're used. I always saw Positive Force as a kind of "boss" theme since it plays for multiple events, whereas Pushing Onwards is, when it comes down to it, just a regular stage theme like Pressure Cooker and Potential for Anything.

Still, the Space Station is split into two parts, and Space Station 2 is the biggest and most open level... part of the way through I thought for a moment I'd escaped into the "free space" somehow! So maybe it was deliberate.

Only Terry has the answers :vitellary:

Yes it is. Same as me, then :viridian:

Well, it won't let me change the encoding for just that program, so I assume there must be a way for your program to set it.

Ironically the reason my system codepage is Japanese is because of a large number of Japanese games that have the exact same problem (although they become totally illegible, whereas this just becomes mildly amusing).

Really? You're concerned about pirates of all things? :verdigris:

Indie gamers don't pirate. Why? Because indie games are cheap and easy to buy and you know where your money is going. As opposed to commercial games where 90% goes to the middlemen.

I got VVVVVV through one of the Humble Bundles. If I wanted to, I could have given absolutely nothing to Terry by adjusting the sliders as such. No, of course i didn't do that. Plus: simply because it's in a Humble Bundle in the first place, it's ALREADY easy to pirate, since any Humble Bundle game has a download link that could be shared with any number of people once found by one paying customer.

That's what I thought; doesn't hurt to check though. Thanks for the quick reply. :)

I think you might need to set the console encoding, unless it's supposed to look like this.

Rohehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehero... ko. :victoria:

I sure am loving the music, though. Now I have a second MJ remix in my playlist! :viridian: (The first one was Serious Effect x Sonic 3 Mid-boss.)

Forced Motion would probably be my favorite. But... instead of Fushing Onwards, why didn't you do Force Positive? :vermillion: That one just seemed so obvious to me. Or Fositive Porce, if you like.

...How's it meant to be pronounced, anyway? I can't make up my mind between making it rhyme with "Pushing", or with a certain profanity.

What order did you play the levels in, after Space Station 1?

For me:
1. The Tower
2. The Laboratory
3. Space Station 2
4. The Warp Zone

I heard most do The Laboratory first, but I guess I'm just too used to Sonic games where your primary objective is going right, so that's what I immediately did after exiting the ship.
VVVVVV / Re: "Not as i do" -- the most annoying room?
February 03, 2012, 03:05:01 PM
I figured out what to do here quite quickly, but it took me a stupid number of tries to actually pull it off.

I think probably the only sequence I died more times in was the Prize for the Reckless trinket (and half of them were trying to get back to reset the checkpoint after failing in Shenanigan!)

Either that, or That's Why I Have To Kill You.

(I haven't actually attempted Doing Things The Hard Way yet)
VVVVVV / Does anyone here play Touhou?
February 03, 2012, 02:56:49 PM
I saw the video on Youtube of someone getting 3 minutes on the Super Gravitron, and wondered if that person had ever tried a Touhou game, cause they would probably be good at it :viridian:

Myself? I've played quite a lot of 6, although I fail at it (I /think/ I may have beaten the game on Normal just once, but I don't really remember). I played some 7 and 8 too, but I didn't find those anywhere near as fun.

And I similarly fail on the Gravitron, lost count of my deaths. Haven't even unlocked Super Gravitron yet (I think I have 16 trinkets so far).

I didn't realize you could wrap off the screen in the Gravitron though, until I saw the Youtube videos. I think it'd be a more interesting challenge to ban doing that, since it does allow skipping many of the projectiles thrown at you.

How exactly would a multiplayer VVVVVV work?

Race to the end of a level?
Co-operative Metroidvania? (either player can get each trinket)
Competitive Metroidvania? (if one player gets a trinket, it'll be missing when the other player gets there)

Could it be integrated with the main game? I would think that would mess up the intermission levels.

Alternatively... in before VVVVVV Sleep is Death crossover... :vermillion:

Has the VVVVVV source code been released anywhere?

Just curious, since a lot of the Humble Bundle games have released the source.

Not that I particularly mind either way. I just like to see how thinks work when I can.

I'm a little late, but where are  :viridian::vitellary:  and the other two Vs?

Still cool, though~
