Well. I come back from my month and a half break to see this. :victoria:

It was only a half-month break... ???

I'm not entirely sure, but I think the main problem isn't the lack of moderation, but the fact that it doesn't solve anything.

I think it is lack of moderation, according to what Terry tweeted yesterday and part of the OP:

Quote from: Terry on May 03, 2013, 06:17:40 PM
I'm sure a lot of you are aware that I'm not really active on these forums any more. In fact, these days it feels like I only drop in when I get a moderator email - for quite some time, these forums have just been a place for random chats about nothing in particular. That's totally fine, but I don't really have the time to moderate that.

And, in the quote above notice what he thinks of the forum. :o And according to his tweets, he seems to think there are still people playing forum games... ???

People have gotten banned left and right, and yet people still use the forum (and especially this board) as a forum where you can do anything.

Quote from: Dav999 on May 04, 2013, 02:37:37 PM
I mean, people who keep bumping 3-year-old threads even though they know that people do get banned for it, with increasing lengths?

I don't know why some people keep doing that, even if they know they're going to be banned. Maybe it's because they think it's temporary? I mean, the only permanent ban caused by a useless bump was to Hacker4334.
And then there's this:

Quote from: A quite MEDICal Derpfish on April 19, 2013, 01:41:32 AM
Quote from: A Yellow Person on April 19, 2013, 01:40:27 AM
WHAT A BIG BUMP,MEDIC.

I was trying to get attention, nobody was doing anything.

What a reason. :-X

Like I said, forum rules. If one person does that, that person should be banned for 15 days (instead of 7, like I said before) and if (s)he does it for the 2nd time, (s)he should be banned permanently.
Speaking of forum rules here are some other suggestions: No useless threads/posts (includes just saying "Agreed", "+1" or just quoting the other post), no Pokemon battles, perhaps not allowing getting only off-topic for more than 8 replies... am I being exaggerated here?
And General Discussion would then be unlocked, with all the forum game threads locked/deleted and the forum rules thread "styckied" and all the GD threads inother boards moved there. After that it could be added to the forum rules that all threads unrelated to Terry's games should go to general Discussion.
I just hope Terry reads this thread. Like he said:

Maybe there's a function (or a plug in maybe?) that allows everyone to disapprove of posts instead of report, select something from a drop down list what's wrong (bump, forum game, irrelevant, etc) so a certain action will be automatically taken after a set number of people have done this. This may be useful if Terry doesn't want to make anyone here a mod.

I might search for that modification. :) I think there's another one that does something similar...

Quote from: Dav999 on May 04, 2013, 02:37:37 PM
I just want the forum to be back as it was before the forum games and nonsense threads. :( Not a closed forum.

Exactly!

(Wow, this a big post! :o)

If it's all about not being able to moderate it anymore, then why not have some (active) moderators? I mean, really, it's much better than this forum closing down! Maybe someone else could even take it over?

That and forum rules. Everyone that creates a forum game, makes a useless bump or anything like that gets banned for 7 days, permanently if twice. :vermillion: That should prevent those from happening.
But, who would be the Global Moderators? Or even the Admin? That's the problem. Terry wouldn't give those positions to just someone... I think... right?

Also, I've been looking into two of the sites linked; it seems the only problem is that we wouldn't have a board just for the game...

EDIT: http://youtu.be/pd49pYA7Ddg

This is a different playthrough (as I didn't record the one I screenshoted), the fact that the Game Time counter is identical is just a coincidence.

How about, in "I'm Sorry", flipping repeatedly from the spike that's pointing down? I wonder if that's faster... I thought that's what you meant with this:
Quote from: FIQ on May 01, 2013, 04:56:50 PM
* Save Victoria (skip I'm Sorry by flipping from spikes)
Also, I noticed it showed the total time (as 12:58) when the YouTube timer was at 12:51... ???
As
I'm curious of what's the lowest # of flips necessary to do it that way (without glitches). Well, curious of the normal way too, but... doing it with invincibility is much easier. FIQ did with with 623 flips, so my guess is that it's slightly less than 600...
And the lowest time? Fastest run in Youtube without invincibility (it was in No Death Mode, by the way) is 14:21 (although I didn't see the whole video...).

As for trying a invincibility speed run myself... I could if I had more time. Normal speed runs are more interesting and even so I rarely do those. Not that invincibility speedruns are boring. :)
Also, there was already a thread for this, despite being old: http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=752.0

Wait a minute, was A Yellow Person banned too?

I dislike posting here, considering the ratio of old on-topic posts to recent off-topic posts, but yes, you're probably right. I don't see him in the member list...
Why? Maybe some people thought he was the one who bumped for some reason and reported his post?

I notcied you edited one of your posts here. I didn't notice at the first time because I already had read this thread.

But its a lost hope now. I still cant believe Terry makes these things and then abandons them so shortly.
ps: Dear Terry, i shall never buy another game by you unless you finish vvvvvv. If you're not going to finish it, I plan to buy the rights off you in the future.  :vermillion:

"So shortly"?! Do you actually know when VVVVVV was released?
VVVVVV 1.0. was released in 11 Jan 2010. 2.0. was released in 26 July 2011, being the first version with the level editor. I'm not sure when Terry decied to give up completing 2.1., but I suspect it was around when this thread was started, so, May 2012. He completed the 3DS version in Jan 2012. That seems a long time to me, even when just counting from 2.0.
(As for the 2nd line, wow, you really do care about 2.2, even if you know that nobody will believe in that 2nd sentence).

... I *meant* VVVVVV 2.1 Windows. I have WINE already.

You need to have VVVVVV 2.0. for Windows first.
Then install the latest beta patch (there isn't a stable version). It's in here.
If you don't have any way to get 2.0 for Windows... then I think it's impossible.

Starius65: I think you should have looked at the thread linked in the 3rd reply... he had already planned to not make 2.2 in January 2012.
It's likely that Terry also gave up on making 2.1. stable/final, but I don't know why.

EDIT: I see you edited your post there... but you still didn't read Terry's post? Or did you think there was still a chance?

Posting this with my 3DS to tell you that the glitch happens on the 3DS version, even after returning to the menu and loading the level again! I have yet to try it with 2.0...

Quote from: Terry on March 09, 2013, 06:54:24 PM
That's Because the 3DS Version is 2.1

Yes the 3DS Version is 2.1!

I noticed what you did: that post form Terry doesn't exist, you just quoted Dav999's post again and replaced with your text! :D
Also, the 3DS version isn't just 2.1, it's basically 2.1. stable (according to Terry), although there's only one difference...

Oh, and double-post? :-X

Back on-topic: So, basically, the variable that PJBottomz mentioned is also changed by the parameter of the last sad command (even if in another script) and by the color of the last crewmate rescued, remainig when changing rooms although reset when touching wrap tokens.
I just assumed the above based of the posts here... and I can't check because I use 2.0. How about changing "sad" to "sad(vittelary)" (or any other crewmate) to see if the text becomes the color of the crewmate? Does happy do that too?
It's really a strange 2.1.-only glitch, anyway.

VVVVVV / Re: A friendly reminder
April 16, 2013, 07:50:47 PM
It confuses because two Ls would be more correct in terms of grammar if it wasn't someone's name (right?). However, it is.
IIRC, PJBottomz, after trying the colored textboxes command (new at that time), thought it didn't work for Vermilion because he used two Ls. After some time, he tried with one L and it worked.

After various hours speedruning (but not in a row), I recently did the Lab in 1:13 without deaths and without trinkets. Download attachment for screenshot.
That's actually only 1 second less than my previous best, but I'm satisfied, as I managed to do every shortcut I wanted. Also, isn't one second a big difference when you're as fast as this?
I think it would be very hard to get 1:12... Still, some people claimed they did it in 1:11. :o I got 1:13, but it was nearly 1:14, so maybe it was less 0.5 seconds instead... this is a case where the timer having tenths of a second would be useful.
Has anyone noticed that if you do it lots of times, eventually you would be able to do some rooms while not being concentrated? Maybe you even have less chance of dying or being slow, like Dav999 said!

EDIT: Fixed a typing mistake.

EDIT 2 (15 days after posting): First, some "off-topic-ness": Yes, I somehow managed to make the "new" icon appear in this thread in the board index without posting again!
This always happens if you edit the last post. Good way to prevent posting multiple times in a row, isn't it? However, it doesn't show the date of the edit unless it's the last edit (you can see why I said "15 days after posting") and doesn't activate the "new posts" icon in the board in the forum index (I think...). It obviously doesn't raise your post count either. :P

On-topic: Being sick of speedruning in the Laboratory, I tried doing that in the Warp Zone, using some tricks I learned in videos and some I discovered myself.
At some point, I decided to, instead of restarting after dying, continue to see if I'm still being fast. This way, I got 1:22 with 2 deaths (and no trinkets). That's less 5 seconds than the fastest S rank (without trinkets) I ever did. 8) O0 However, no screenshot.

Off-topic again: Yes, Dav999, I read about the new smiley you discovered. How did you find out about it?

VVVVVV / Re: [MORE GLORIOUS GENERAL DISCUSSION]
April 16, 2013, 07:10:48 PM
I agree that the General Discussion board should be reopen.
It was closed because of the forum game threads. Why not just lock or even erase (but which? Terry's choice) them instead of locking the whole board? Currently, there are General Discussion threads in the VVVVVV board. I posted one of the threads because it deserved to be posted (regardless of how stupid the idea I suggested there was), and that's probably why other posted. Also, recently one person created a forum game thread in the VVVVVV board and it was erased hours later. Why not do the same in the GD board?
Also, why not create a sticky forum rules thread in that board implying not only that you can't create forum games but also Pokemon battles. Am I exaggerating here?

Terry's sorted to-do list if he accepts re-opening GD:

  • Lock/erase the forum game threads. I don't know of this can be done before #2. That includes the quoteception thread and many others. Also, isn't the VVVVVV roleplaying thread a forum game?
  • Re-open the General Discussion board.
  • Move all the General Discussion threads into the General Discussion board. This includes the ones with "General Discussion" in the title, this thread, several others and an old thread, "VVVVVV is a game? (Y/N)", that's mostly about what I'm discussing now.
  • Create a sticky thread in the GD board implying that forum games shouldn't be created and maybe other things.

Has anyone sent him a PM yet? I don't know if reply 14 is serious...
How about send him a PM with a link to this topic (and an explanation, otherwise it would look like spam :D)? That way, he would read why we think it should be done!

I'm bumping this because some time ago I did the same thing as FIQ in both spikes that point up and down and it didn't work. The leftmost position that kills you is adjacent to the rightmost position that lets you fall (referring to spikes that point up, and the positions are in pixels).
Notice that I said that I already had known (and reproduced) this sometime before I posted this thread. Maybe I somehow didn't really remember how the "bug" occurred...
What I'm trying to say is that it may be not standing on edges of floors/ceilings with spikes... I have to test...
What I'm sure that Viridian can float on places that he/she should have either died or just fell, at least in 2.0. I remember that.

HOW HAS THIS GOT TO 6 PAGES ALREADY.
It's a thread about absolutely nothing!

The last time I went here was ≈12 hours ago, when this thread didn't even exist, so I got amazed too. :o
I noticed something: Most of the times I go here, I only get some new posts, as it's just somewhat active; but the 1st time I go here in each day, there are a lot of new posts in the VVVVVV board, and most of them are Derpfish's and replies to those. Result of having a very different time zone from Derpfish (I guess)... and perhaps Derpfish being very active here...
Also, yes, the topic of this thread is completely useless, but most of the posts are off-topic and about BASIC and related... how didn't anyone say "We're off-topic!"?! :o
