Seriously, what did you mean making an un-finishable level?! :violet:

That level is very good for a first try! But there's one major issue: you can accidentally miss the crewmate and fall in the easy mode's warp token. It happened once to me :victoria:

Are you still working on this level? It would be nice to have a version of more than 2 rooms :)

I hope you'll be able to get all the trinkets in a next version of the level. I hate seeing a 1-stared level in my level list. >:(

VVVVVV / Cut centralisation
« on: April 01, 2012, 07:41:40 am »
Cuts are extremely frequent in VVVVVV levels! Some of these cuts use the level-breaking glitches I mentioned in this topic:
Now, I'm making a list of the cuts I know. You can help me answering me with other cuts you found: to signal me a cut, tell me:
  • the level where you found it;
  • the room where the cut starts (possibly with the part of the room you're in) and the room where it finishes (OR the skipped part)
  • how hard you think it's to execute (between very easy, easy, medium difficulty, hard or very hard);
  • if it lets you take all the trinkets, it only lets you take the crewmates or if it just goes to the level's last room;
  • and finally, how to make it.
Examples of cuts I found myself:
  • A New dimension: from "Believe in yourself" to "Outer Space".
    Easy. Forgoes trinkets.
Step 1: rescue Violet and come back to the right part of the room
Step 2: use the wrapline glitch to go back to a previous part of the level ("You can rush it or take it slow")
Step 3: re-use the wrapline glitch with the medium part of the room, to go to the right and being flipped. You'll land in "Head fake".
Step 4: go to "Minos made me my magnificent maze" and use the wrapline glitch to the right of the room. You'll land under "Chip of the old block".
Step 5: travel through the empty space to the right to get to the "Outer Space" rooms, and it's done! ;)
  • DSS Ideal X, skipping the warpzone sub-level.
    Very easy. Skips trinkets.
Once you have unlocked the access to the containment's first room, enter it, and activate the checkpoint. Exit the room and kill yourself. The containment wormhole is now active :P
  • DSS Ideal X, from "Security Grid" (broken version) to the ending of the level.
    Hard. Forgoes trinkets.
Step 1: Go where Viridian is on the attached picture. (Yes, it's the hard part)
Step 2: Go to the room on the right (which isn't "Reactor core" :o), and advance 2 more rooms to the right. You should land on the roof of a corridor of the intact ship.
Step 3: Flip. You'll land under the teleporter room of the end of the level. Flip again and you have one chance out of two to enter the room ;)
  • Line wrap: from "Thinking outside the box" to "Binary system".
Medium difficulty. Doesn't forget any trinket nor crewmate!
Step 1: Once you've got the trinket, use the wrapline glitch to go to the empty space on the left.
Step 2: You're now under the spiky pits of the beginning of the level. Flip and you will either fall down the empty space (what you want) or go up and die (stupid death :violet:)
Step 3: I suppose you're falling. If you're not because you died, go back to step 1. Now, fall for two rooms then go right. And now, you're in "Binary system"! And I hope you could avoid the spikes in the middle of the room.
  • Line wrap: from "Thinking outside the box" to "Lower Level"
Very hard. Doesn't forget any trinket nor crewmate!
I don't know how to describe it; I'll someday post a map of the level with the route I followed. This cut requires MANY luck and a good memory of where you are. It makes you enter "Central processing unit" by its top!
  • CCCCCCCCCC Retold: from "Half Slalom" (level 2 part) to "Half slalom" (level 9 part).
Very hard to do. Forgoes trinkets.
Step 1: Activate the checkpoint and the terminal.
Step 2: Go to "Overused gameplay mechanics". Don't activate the checkpoint.
Step 3: Try to die at the exact moment you enter the scriptbox that is supposed to destroy the gravitylines. If it's done correctly, once you respawn in "Half Slalom", the gravitylines have vanished! :vermillion:
[li]Reactor Disaster: skipping all the trinkets.
Easy to do. Forgoes trinkets.
Step 1: Rescue the first four crewmates, and go back to "Powerful stuff".
Step 2: Without touching checkpoints, go to the terminal in "The things we die for", activate it andwhile the dialoglines set up, press R. And you'll respawn in front of a generator lacking gravlines.
That's all the cuts I know! I'll update this post when you'll give new cuts!

1. c
2. d
3. a
4. d
5. c
That's not "basic info questions", it's "proove you have bought the game"  :viridian:

6. Forget what I just said :verdigris: (not the roomtitle)
7. Viridian and Verdigris
8. What do you mean by "the level"? If you're talking about the dimension, he's in the Tower. If you're talking about the Tower, he's in the room after the scrolling one.
9. 20 (This one means "have you read the text that appears each time you get one?")
10. The teleporter room

11. Violet. By the way, in Comms Relay, if you wait at the beginning of the room, Violet will call Verdigris but not you.
12. Vitellary and Victoria.
13. Victoria (not sure)
14. Blah blah blah... (not what she says)
15. Vitellary

16. You're a sadist! (not what he says)
17. The antenna (I usually don't notice him when I play because I get all the trinkets before the final level and I find the Warp Zone last)
18. doomS and Swoop
19. They combine into a giant blinking Viridian, and destroy the wall (I think it should be smaller... but VVVVVV doesn't agree the physics laws)
20. 10 seconds (and this one means "did you get all the trinkets?)

Now that it's finished, I have to tell you something: I don't make levels, and I think I deserve the Level repair. It means I can't get any reward :victoria:
Some ideas of other questions: how many spikes are there in this dimension? (Just to avoid making a level)
If Violet gives you a lollipop, how many crewmates have you saved? (1, her)
In which room are there the square diagonally-striped enemies? ("Mind the gap")
Which music can't be heard before the game is finished by any LEGAL way? ("ecroF evitisoP")
Who do you rescue last in "333333"? (Vitellary)
Who made "4k VVVV"?
What do you toggle with F10 in the level editor?

This trinket is extremely easy to get, since you can press R in midair before touching the checkpoint :P

The first room didn't seem too hard for me. The main parts where I had trouble were the first trinket, the maze (it made me crazy >:(), the marathon (I missed its trinket the first time I played it), and SPAAAAAAAAAAAAA..., you know what I mean.
Also, there is TOO MUCH ROOMTEXT. Even in the current version. Use more script, please.
The importance of trinkets makes you should be more able to backtrack (for example, you come back to the beginning in the bad ending)

* If you walk to the left corner of Morning Sun, you will drop down, the room will wrap and you will get stuck to the wall, ending up in "Oops, you died" right next to the trinket in Vengeance.
I wish I knew that sooner! :victoria:

Aerial stunts are really gonna be a real level? I loved the "We're closed" rooms, I don't want them to change! :victoria:
"YOU ARE A PIRATE" is really a surprising room. It seems more to be a luck room than a timing puzzle. You're allowed to change it!
Also, I hate having to guess where the warps are in some rooms such as "0 km to the bottom of the world". I never liked trial and error in vvvvvv levels. You can also change them :P
EDIT: "Emergency entrance" is really an emergency entrance, because you can access it from the aerial stunts training.

VVVVVV Levels / Re: The X Dimension (WIP, Pre-Alpha)
« on: March 26, 2012, 04:32:37 pm »
This level isn't too bad!
I just found some issues. For example, you left a warp token behind Verdigris! I took it thinking it was leading to a secret, but I found myself stuck after a long while in an unfinishable room  ::) I think now it was supposed to be what you began to make of the next part of the next versions of the level?
Also, the beginning is quite poor graphically. But it's just a pre-alpha...
Finally, two of the trinkets are really bad: first, one who requires you to travel through empty space. It is really unfair, please remove it! (EDIT: it's the one in "Security Drones")
The other trinket i didn't like is the one I just can't take without invicibility. I don't remember the name of its room, I just remember it was a green room with the lab tileset. EDIT: it's "No Refunds". What was I supposed to do?!
Other than that, the challenges were very nice! :viridian:

I would really like the possibility to make cutscenes (at least in 2.2).

VVVVVV Tech Support / Re: Version 2: Report bugs here
« on: March 26, 2012, 04:20:27 pm »
There are some level breaking bugs:
  • Crossing a warp line and immediatly turning back can make the game ignores the warp line. It can for example break the last part of Souleye's A New Dimension (use it  in "Minos Made Me My Magnificent Maze", and you'll be in a large empty space leading to the final warp).
  • If you die at the exact moment you enter a script box, the script will execute after you respawn. It can be used to go from CCCCCCCCC Retold's level 2 to level 9.
  • Kill yourself in front of a terminal, and activate it on the moment you respawn. It ends as the previous bug.
This last one is easier if there are dialog lines before the critical moment (such as the moment the gravlines or the warps are destroyed). You just have to activate the terminal after you kill yourself, timing doesn't change anything.
If you want these awesome levels to be played correctly, please correct these glitches!
