VVVVVV / Re: Forum closing down

Understand how you feel Terry, it must be quite a responsibility to be active in the forums these when also knee deep in other projects.

Thanks for sticking with it this long though!

I like it!  :viridian:

I really like the phases it puts you through without any interference and the trust put in the player at the beginning to try different things. There's a train of thought that you're trying to access and it's a delight when you realise you're on the right track.
A lot of creativity and effort has gone into this level - it's a ride! Everything about it stretches the engine to its fullest effect and the conceit of a drug induced psychological universe is a great platform for it.

Would be even better if I didn't suck though - had to stop playing last night because of this room and the ones that follow.

Too cruel - I can never stick the landing on the other side.

But I'm not giving up!

It looks fine, but the single tiled walls are killing me. Avoid having walls that are only one tile thick.

Yeah, they do look bad most of the time. Sometimes I deliberately used them to that effect but they mostly make it look like an amateur project. Thanks!

Hello! I have a question: What is the first VVVVVV level you've EVER made? I'm sure everyone would be interested in seeing them.
If you can't find your FIRST level, show off the earliest one you can find.

Hey ?, I really liked your first level. Even though it was only your first it had a strong sense of personality and really expressed your mischievousness (particularly liked the rooms that kept warping you around and taunting you), even in some of the devilish jumps with moving platforms.

My first VVVVVV level is actually my first level I've ever finished making in any game ever! Very rough around the edges but hopefully you'll like it.

It was definitely a victim of me thinking of cool ideas and then swiftly dropping them. The early rooms are kind of single room chapters in a story I was trying to weave but then discarded. I had the idea that the player should be a downbeat every-man that had a running monologue throughout the world and then it got a bit weird.

I only used the tools I had available in the level editor and haven't tried scripting yet, so I apologise if there are hidden bugs!

Hope you enjoy.

PS The filename is the imaginative 'Proto 1' but the level is called 'Point the way'. In the level editor you have to move one room to the left from the default position to get to the starting room, so 5,1.

PPS I'm actually writing an accompanying essay going through my thought process for each room if anyone is interested in long form design analysis - I'll post when it's finished.
