What is the best spike?

The one that points left

Because there just aren't enough polls at the moment.

Also, down spike, because awesome.

Up, because with the lab tileset spikes (the hollow ones), it kind of looks like flames if you stack them on top of each other.

Slightly related: someone, 2,5 years ago counted the spikes in VVVVVV (check this thread for more info). That person also noted the orientation of the spikes. The results are in the VVVVVV wiki.

My favorite spike? ... Undecided between up and down. Those, are actually, more common than the horizontal ones.

If you check the manuel for the 3DS port, that's a section where it tells you how many spikes there are and how many per level.

It's probably the data the person mentioned calculated. If he didn't calculate, it probably wouldn't be there.
Slightly off-topic: Someone that bought the 3DS version and joined this forum posted the spike data found on the manual claiming that he, himself, counted. However, Terry mentioned that it was on the manual and some time later someone else mentioned the topic I mentioned before. Check this.
