Rank system for time trial

I can only assume I missed something obvious somewhere, but I'm trying to work out how the math is done for ranks on Time Trials.  I did quite poorly in the Space Station 2 trial and ended up with a B, which surprised me.  (I missed all three targets; time/death/shiny.)  My naive guess is that you start with a B and gain one rank letter (B -> A -> S -> V) for each category you "pass" in (+1 Rank!), but it wouldn't surprise me to find there's some kind of sliding scale based on math or points or something.  I haven't played them enough to figure it out.  :victoria:

So how is your final rank computed?

Mercen4ry

The lowest rank is a B.

Meeting each of the following goals improves your score one letter. They must be completed in the same run to be cumulative:

* Beat the par time
* Finish without dying
* Collect every shiny trinket

Thus, in the same run:
* 0 goals met: B
* 1 goal met: A
* 2 goals met: S
* 3 goals met: V

Clear as mud? :)

Heh.  Didn't expect I'd be right.  Makes sense though.

Yeah, it took me a little bit to figure out that a "B" was the absolute worst grade.  I figured that if you went especially slower, you'd get an even worse grade.

I think it's a way of saying, "since you can even beat the level AT ALL, you get a B.  Congrats."

Considering the skill level we're dealing with, I can respect that.

Too bad B means both "Able to beat the level in 30 minutes with 300 deaths and no trinkets" and "Beat the level with 1 death, 5 seconds past par time and got all trinkets except Doing Things the Hard Way".
