Saving appears not to work on Mac

Hi there,

I finally started playing VVVVVV and I found that saving does not work. I have a Mac and first used the VVVVVV version I bought on the Mac Appstore. After some googling I found that the saving problem might be related to that version, so I bought a new one on Steam. However, this version also forces me to start all over again each time I start up the game.

I did reach a teleporter and did press the save button, so there must be some save information. What can I do in order to stop having to restart from scratch every time?
