I appreciate the input guys. I'm gonna wait until Terry weighs in and then I'll change all the references in the wiki once and for all.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to TheDevilTesla, who started the Wiki? He or she hasn't made any changes to the wiki, or to the web site, or posted anything here for two and a half weeks. I'm excited to collaborate on this Wiki, but if (s)he's not going to be around, I think I'll just start my own Wiki and move all my pages there.

Maybe I'll give TheDevilTesla a month from the last post before I do anything drastic. That's april 20th. Does that sound fair?

School happened! I got all excited about making this big ol site then kind of ran out of steam. If you move the wiki somewhere else I'll change the link to point to there. I'd still like to get a script up!

James

Sounds good. That often happens with projects like this. That's why a wiki is a great format for this kind of site actually. I'd be happy if you wanted to contribute a script, or a walkthrough. It looks like the majority of the Wiki will be my writing, so I think it would be best if I moved it to another Wiki, just so I can have access to the wiki management tools.

Sounds great! Tell me when you get something together.

Alright, I've got another Wiki up. I've moved all my content over, so you're free to delete the old wiki, or whatever you'd like to do. I haven't moved your pages over yet, so be sure to back up the informationj in them; however, I think some of the information on the "Introduction to VVVVVV" may be redundant now, the way I've been structuring the new wiki.

The new wiki is also on Wikispaces, for ease of portability. Here's the URL:

Enjoy!

I think the right thing to do is to call them "inversion planes" since this is what they're called in the game. They're only referred to once, in the message on the terminal that reveals the entrance to the laboratory, but if it's in the game then I think that's the most official you can get.

You know what's cool?  The terminal seems to imply that when you cross one of those lines, you're actually entering a universe identical in every way to the one you just left, except for flipped vertically.  If I'm understanding that correctly, it is so cool.

Hehe, that's it exactly.

Okay, now I've got one more question for everyone (especially Terry). About those things in The Laboratory...originally in the Wiki I called them "flipping beams", before changing them to "reversing beams". On the General Mechanics page TheDevilTesla referred to them as "Bounce lines", in the game thay're referred to in a terminal message as  "Inversion Planes" and on this forum I've seen Terry refers to them as "gravity lines". So, I need to know...what are they officially called?

I guess the official term is "inversion planes", but I kinda just refer to them as gravity lines. Use whichever you like!

Bloodshadow

Officially they're called inversion planes, but for practical reasons, maybe you should just call them gravity lines to avoid confusing people.

James

My solution was to call them inversion planes in the wiki, and then explain that people also call them a bunch of other names, and I've listed a few. I figured that was the reasonable way to approach this.

Terry,

A couple more questions for you. First, why are the letters "B, A, S, and V" chosen for the time trials ranks? I theorize that B and A are just like letter grades, S is perhaps "super" or something like that, and V obviously had to be the highest rank. Is this close to the mark, or is there some other pattern to it?

Second, I've noticed that you never mention, or even hint at, the significance (if any) of the psychadelic crying elephant either in the game or anywhere else. Have you chosen to intentionally leave it mysterious and open to interpretation? Is there anything I can write about this on the wiki?

Thanks again!

TheDevilTesla

That website is incredibly sexy, thanks for putting so much work into it!

By the way, I'm pretty sure that "Doctor" applies to one or both of Violet and Victoria as the title (of someone with a PhD), not necessarily the profession.  Neither of their jobs seem to have anything to do with medicine, for one thing.

In fact, I'd say all of those things (Officer, Professor) are better called the crewmate's title than their "profession."   The game never says 'Verdigris is a chief' (whatever that means), it refers to him as "Chief Verdigris".

Thanks! If you have any questions about the formatting used etc. just post a message in the "Comms Relay" page.

Hmm...that's a god point. I think you're right. I'm going to change the wording on the characters page.

Terry

The wiki is looking really amazing, I love it! :viridian:

There's nothing much going on here; first of all I don't like low ranks like F or D or whatever for this sorta thing, so I went with a high minimum. And S-Rank is a fairly popular Rank-above-A that a lot of games do, so I just thought it would be funny to have a rank above that.

I think it's more interesting to let each player decide that for themselves than just telling people how it came about. The only real significance to it is that it came from the same place as most of the rest of the enemy designs.

James

Aah...from your dream journal! I should have guessed!
