How to reproduce:

  • Activate Secret Lab cutscene.
  • Quit to menu when you are combined.
  • Go into Secret Lab.
  • Flip 2 times to activate the "before the ship" cutscene.
  • Go into teleporter.
  • Watch the glitchy cutscene.
  • Amaze your friends with an impossible savegame.

...and I thought playing as a fish and getting 3 out of 1 trinkets on the final level was a big bug.

Isn't it possible to use Invincibility and cross from SS1 into SS2, rescuing the other crewmates but not Violet?

No, that bug rescues Violet but makes Vitellary unrescuable. Or whoever you decide to go to after breaking out of SS1.

You don't anymore, it was fixed in the patch. To do it, you would talk to Victoria with 19 trinkets in the shelves and the last one in her pocket. Then you would end the game in the beginning of the dialogue with Victoria (which is impossible post-patch) and go into the last level time trial.

That bug was caused by exiting the game mid-discussion, and that was fixed. However, exiting the game mid-combine was not patched, resulting in this mega-bug.

This reminds me of a glitch that I found as well.

From what I can tell, this glitch allows you to save after most of the games variables have been cleared. The only thing that remains is your position, and the number of trinkets you have found. Keep in mind however, that if you use this glitch anywhere but the teleporter in Space Station 1, you will be unable to rescue Violet, or even complete the game.

How to reproduce this Glitch:
1) Save at a teleporter.
2) exit VVVVVV (Important: This glitch needs to be done from a cold start).
3) Load save, and press esc as soon as you can.
4) Choose to quit to menu.
5) If you did #3 right, you should be greeted with a black screen and "Game Saved" should appear.
6) You can still run around and flip, but when you are done, press esc again and you will go to the menu.
7) Voila! Your game save is reset, but your trinket count is not.

Could you use that to get over 20 trinkets? I'm curious whether the words "One", "Two" etc. use an actual conversion function or simply a string table.

Attached are some pictures which may be of interest.

There are two ways to get to Intermission 2 (only in invincible mode):

- From "The Final Challenge" jump up offscreen.  Move gradually to the right until you reach outer space, and make sure you are in a position to fall toward the direction of the level end. Audio cues are important here, you need to know the difference between being flipped up and flipped down. Anyway, when you reach outer space, fall to the right until you hit the wall of Intermission 2. You'll notice you start sliding through the wall till you reach the top.

- In "The Last Straw" and the room after it you will notice a "continuous" disappearing platform. Enter one of the rooms squashed between the platform and the spikes, and flip. If you've done it quickly enough, you should start sliding through the wall and pop out in (or to the left of) Intermission 2.

Through these methods and some exploration elsewhere in the level, I have learned that you CAN, in fact, die in invincibility mode. Fall into the wall of a scrolling room. I'm wondering if this had anything to do with getting the "Beat Game with <50 Deaths" award.

I'm kind of lamenting that there aren't any ways to Intermission 1.
