Game immediately crashes on open

So I bought VVVVVV in the Humble Indie Bundle 3 and installed it via the standalone installer.  I played for a little while, saved, and quit.  Then I downloaded the bundle on Steam and ran it from there.  Still no problems; I switched it to fullscreen and played for a while.  Now, however, the game immediately crashes when I try to run it, either from Steam or from the standard installation.  I've tried uninstalling both and reinstalling one or the other to no avail, and I even backed up my VVVVVV directory in My Documents and deleted the original to see if that would affect it.  No good.  Any ideas?

Weird! What system are you on? Do you have a crash report you could send? Might help us figure it out.

I'm on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.  There doesn't seem to be any sort of crash log in the event viewer, though I forgot to mention it's not a "formal" crash with a "VVVVVV.exe has stopped running" message, the game simply opens to a black screen for half a second or so then closes immediately.
