How did you go about handling physics in the flash version of the game (v1.2 and below) or was there any physics in the game to begin with?

Also does the main character have any velocity (acceleration / deceleration etc) or does he instantaneously start moving at max speed.

I'm currently in the process of making a version of VVVVVV for my website (if you grant me permission of course) that allows people to make levels and upload them to a database (i've been working on it for a couple of months prior to version 2.0 which you released unexpectedly) :(

The database then allows people to just load the webpage and play the map, but I'm stuck on the velocity as it doesn't feel right.

If you don't want to talk via the forums, You can contact me via my email (chuck me a pm, i don't want to release it publicly)

Thanks in advanced :)

You're working on a VVVVVV clone? ???

Unless you wanna copy VVVVVV exactly for some reason, I don't see why you'd need to know exact physics values. Not sure how I feel about that. [edited out mechanics stuff]

patawic

i wouldn't call it a complete clone.
More like a version of the level editor by itself that allows people to make levels and let other people play them by supplying them with a unique url.

Thanks for your help :)

Terry

Wouldn't you have more fun making your own game, though?

I would, but i always get stuck on ideas.
The whole website (http://trackmill.com) is based around user generated levels and content (hence the motto of "user driven gaming")
the majority of the games on that site (except for Steel Super Structure(we made that)) are modified versions of other games (with their permission)

Yikes :o Is that a clone of Line Rider?

Can't help but notice you're running ads on that site. It might be one thing if you were just doing this to learn about making games or something, but it appears you're just trying to make money...

No, I'm sorry - can't say I approve at all.

You could classify it as a linerider clone, but we didn't make it "Pete" did (he hasn't been contactable for a few years now)
Free rider 1: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/free_rider
Free rider 2: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/free_rider_2
Google ads pay for the majority of our server costs, Mochiads isnt linked to us, its linked to http://www.onemorelevel.com that's the deal we had with them for permission to use the game on trackmill.
The Free rider 2 database is almost exceeding 2 million tracks, each track ranges from 1kb in size to around 1mb in size, the bandwidth costs are insane.

I don't own the site, I'm just a developer.

Terry

I'd really rather you just made your own game instead of copying mine.

patawic

alright :( thanks for your help anyway
