Hello! Just a quick hi before I begin - my name is Mike, I'm a word-writer person, and I love VVVVVV way too much.

That out of the way, I've been wondering how fast anyone has managed to complete VVVVVV. I've finished it probably over a dozen times now, so I'm getting quite good at it.

Here are some runs for you to try to beat  :vermillion:

This was a random playthrough that I did, I wasn't even trying to be fast but I managed to get under an hour, which was nice. Only got 8 of the trinkets, but one of them was 'Doing Things the Hard Way', hence my Hardest Room.

This is my fastest at the moment, purposely not getting any trinkets (except the one you have to get).

I'm thinking if I cut down the time spent roaming around the overworld and then stop making silly mistakes here and there, I could complete the whole game in 20 mins.
Anyone managed faster?

I did a quick run-through to see around how long it would land.

Plenty of mistakes in the overworld and lot of careless deaths. Plus my brain melted in Cosmic Creepers  :victoria:

EDIT* Had another go at a sub 20 minute run, but alas... :victoria:

Wobbles

Well, this is a full 20 trinket run.  Made a lot of mistakes and I'm terrible at the Gravitron.  I'm going to try and drop this down to about 21 minutes.

KingOreO

That's a nutty 20 trinket run Wobbles, I haven't even begun to think of an optimal route for that :(

I tried a segmented run for the first time. Obviously every death could have been avoided and improved upon but I was fairly happy with the final area. Also, funny that they include the total deaths between saves and restarts although they don't include it in the final death tally  :vitellary:

This thread makes me more jealous than I probably should admit.  :violet:

*nominates KingOreO for the first youtube'd no death run :)*

This is surely a bug... it surely shouldn't save your hardest room until you reach a teleporter. This has obviously happened because it saved your hardest room on the spot, so when you restarted without saving it kept that number.

Actually, on the topic, I'm wondering if maybe the game should remember whether you loaded an old save and continued from it, so we can see whether a person played constantly all the way through without reloading, or whether they reloaded from a checkpoint.

My best time so far is 18:16 with a lot of mistakes. After doing it, I practiced the warp zone and the final stage a lot, and I'm confident I can do 17:00 or better. I plan on doing a near perfect run for speeddemosarchive.com with a time of around 16:30... but that will depend on the gravitron. Single segment of course.

If you wanna watch it, check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSGBigtboU4

you can check the 2nd part in my profile, but I accidentally cut around 10 seconds when I split the file in two so that I could upload it on youtube.

enjoy!

p.s. Speedrunning this game is addicting :P

Ouranos: As long as you don't plan on taking the 20 trinket run from me, I'll be fine with that :3 I was planning on doing one for SDA as well.  And you're right, speedrunning it is addicting.

Ouranos

I was thinking of a 20 trinkets run, but I'm really not that good at that whole veni vidi vici deal haha ;) There's already the gravitron that's a run destroyer, I don't want to risk my sanity too much... so have fun with it hahaha :)

If you find some new tricks I'm not aware of, it would be nice to share! I changed the way I did the warp zone (see the better time), but I have a feeling my final stage isn't optimal at all. My best time on that is 2:06 with 4-5 deaths, but I'm sure there's a different """route""" that can be taken.

How come this says "21 deaths" but then the hardest room has 61 deaths?

Ouranos

There's a bug in the game where it continues to count your deaths in between new games. I practiced that particular room a lot in time trial before attempting that run (and died a lot in it doing so)

A bit similar to wobble's screenshot, it was discussed a bit.

I figured I would resurrect this thread to post my times.  :viridian:

Any%

100% (all trinkets)

(Obviously, I segmented this one considerably.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctaRPXHJ3rU - Part1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjWkQGRZLns - Part2

Still considering doing a segmented any%, don't ask me to do a no-death run, I've given up enough of my life already  :vermillion:

Also, I think one (or more) of the challenge questions is broken (What's the second word... 'the' is apparently not the correct answer). I hope you figure out a better way to thwart those spambots soon. Seriously, it took me 5 minutes to get a challenge question that wasn't broken  :victoria:

Congratulations, almost perfect run! The run with all the trinkets is far more unbelievable. We first believed youi may have used a script or sth, but since you made gravitron, this is hard to prove.  If i was asked if somebody could do ND run at the mom, i would bet on you.
