Infinity: The open source HUB VVVVVV level
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:18:12 am »
Wait, WHAT?

Thats right, folks, It's a VVVVVV level that anyone can edit.
YOU add in a short level to it and post a link.
I approve that link and put it up here.
EVERYONE gets to play your level, PLUS the levels before it! (until we run out of space. In which case there will be an infinity 2)

All in all its a win-win for everyone!  :viridian:
Feeling nostalgic? Heres 1.1, still up but quite outdated: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36647697/InfinityB1.vvvvvv
Version 2, currently the most current stable version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36647697/infinityv2.vvvvvv

DISCLAIMER:
My awesomeness radiation caused two, slighty different levels to come from the bottom of the earth and be totally awesome. THIS ONE is the one where YOU MAKE A SHORT LEVEL, NOT YOU CONTRIBUTE TO A LONGER LEVEL. If you are looking for this levels twin the level where YOU CONTRIBUTE ONE OR TWO ROOMS, go to the level Everlasting, which is here : http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=558 . Thank you as have a nice day.

Level contributions:
FlamingBanana: 2
PJBottomz: 1

Version history:
1.0- Initial release containing 2 short levels
1.1- Fixed "Think it through"
     - Removed a platform and a checkpoint in "Defiant" that made it much more difficult (as in now its easier)
     - Removed the broken scripting  :victoria:
2.0- Every room has been edited at least once! (for the better)
     - More trinkets!
     - Whats this? A level by the scripter-in-chief himself, PJBottomz!!
     - Less bugs!
     - I dont know how PJ did it, but COLORED TEXT.

Our scripter-in-chief is PJBottomz! 3 rounds of applause!  :viridian:  He will add a script to the level once it is complete, giving it a story so a bunch of random weird storylines pop up. You shouldn't (read: i will remove if you do) script unless its something like, say, you need x script to disable y gravity line. You can still do that, of course.    :viridian:

Rules for submitting:
1. Keep your level short.
2. If you include trinkets, dont include more than two. Sadly theres a 20 trinket limit, so please dont overdo it.
3. Please, no scripting UNLESS it is required to play the level. (for example, a script disabling gravity lines to get to a crewmate). Let the PJBottomz handle the rest!
4. Make your level fun!

I like this idea, it's worked well on other forums I've been on (with other games, obviously).  I may add something to it later if I have time. :)

Thanks both of you!
TheoX, have you played the first 2 levels (the initial ones I put in) and would consider doing a serious review?

Let me start off by saying I actually thought this whole idea was something different: I thought it was one level made by different people, but each person would design a few rooms.  I didn't realize that it was a hub of smaller levels, which I think is also a cool idea, but in a different way.

I don't think I'll do a regular review considering the constantly-changing aspect of this level, but I played a bit of the first level and I do have a few things to criticise:
 - There's a few places where I died right as I entered a room.  Pretty much all instances of this should be eradicated for a better playing experience.
 - In that green room with all the vertical lines, it's almost impossible to fit into the space with the crewmate because it's 3 blocks tall.  Flat openings in general should always be 4-tall or more.

I'll come back to this, really busy right now irl.

Great! Thanks for pointing both those out. I'll be sure to fix them in 1.2.

EDIT: PJBottomz will probably fix them in 2.0, or I'll fix them in 2.1

Actually, I also thought that was the idea, and to be honest I think that would be even better.
Making a whole level costs a lot of time, while making one screen is quicker to do.
I also think more people will join this project if they only have to make 1/2 screens ;)
That way we can make a very big and fun level together!
 :viridian:
But of course, it's your idea so if you want it the way it is, I'll still join the project :)
Anyway, take it into consideration!

:vitellary: Franz & Theo, sorry I didn't make what the level was clear enough. I kinda like my idea better, but due to all the Demands requests for one, I plan on creating a separate level with THAT idea in mind. I like this project slightly more because it means you can't just make a minor contribution and say "omg I'm so awsme!!!1!!" Thanks for your suggestions both of you though. Also, you don't have to make very long levels. Just look at my first 2 levels, they're barely 5 screens each, yet still a challenge!

EDIT: Everlasting is now up! Link in the first post.

Okay, don't take this the wrong way, but, your levels are a bit, uhm, messy, so it will be a while before I can get the improved scripted version of them out. Sorry.

So, I'm the SIC? That's sweet!

Anyway, the level cleaning is done (sorta), so I'm going to start coming up with the storyline for your levels.

I think I might try to add one if I can come up with a 4-room plot. :o It'll be my biggest tiniest challenge yet.

Okay, current progress:

  • Made the walls in some rooms more appealing
  • Removed some crewmates (you had more than one of everyone except for Violet)
  • Added a trinket
  • Implanted a small but creative object
  • Changed some text to make it look better.
  • Worked on the Hub's appearance

This took less time than I thought. :P
