A DEBUT LEVEL BY OJ: Unnamed Level!
« on: March 15, 2012, 03:20:04 am »
I just saved it and named it as "Snail" because that's what the first room is. A snail. The universal symbol of slowness. Take it slow. The level is pretty much no death mode in itself, so don't die. This is my first level I posted here. I made it in about 1 1/2 hours, and it doesn't really have a plot. Or any scripting, at all. I try to keep that at a minimal level to keep the game from crashing, because I do the code wrong a lot and it explodes.

So, yeah, it's a short level with no checkpoints, 5 trinkets, no scripts whatsoever, no storyline, it's a simple 3x4 level. I didn't try to get TOO creative or anything. Go crazy.  :verdigris:

Might post screenshots later.

Download link because a) it won't let me or b) I'm stupid and can't make an attachment.

Even if you write scripts wrong, VVVVVV shouldn't segfault!
The only cause of that (aside from if you do something really scary, but even if you don't know what you're doing that should not be possible) is if you have say(N) and has less than N lines below, which will make VVVVVV segfault. Just make sure you insert a newline in the end of your scripts or the last line will be removed for some reason.

Trying out the level now, will edit the post when I have tried it.

EDIT: Interesting first try. I don't quite like the second room, it doesn't look that good IMO. I liked the "underground" part of Oasis - how you did the background. But I don't quite like the middle (just below the trinket), the wall placed at the bottom feels misplaced and the 2x2 wall that lacks a wall tile in the bottom right feels like it's missing something. I'd prefer if you removed thet bottom wall tile and instead placed it in the 2x2 area.
I don't like having death traps in a level w/o checkpoints (like taking the down way in the third area, the "Glass Half Full Of Spikes" room, etc, but that might just be me!
Also, I don't mind hard trinkets but they get a little annoying w/o checkpoints! I ended up skipping them (like the one in Oasis).

EDIT2: Found two bugs.
* Vroom Vroom has a wall mismatch between that room and the room on the left (Morning Sun) - the wall is placed too low on Morning Sun.
* If you walk to the left corner of Morning Sun, you will drop down, the room will wrap and you will get stuck to the wall, ending up in "Oops, you died" right next to the trinket in Vengeance.
