Title: VED - The External VVVVVV Level Editor!
Post by: Lollipop on April 30, 2016, 02:23:37 AM
~ VED truly is, an invaluable tool for the aspiring VVVVVV level maker and for experts alike. ~
- Lollipop 2016

Behold, the best thing since sliced bread!

Main page! (https://tolp2.nl/ved)

Download page! (https://tolp2.nl/ved/download)

The In-game editor is okay, but it does lack in some regards. But with VED, all the things you want are in it! (And if they're not, you can suggest the ideas Here! (http://ved.idea.informer.com/))

Ved is now in full release, and has many features like:

VED was made by Dav999 (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=21316) (You might know him, he's a moderator here and he's the admin for ToLP 2)

Oh, and you can even develop plugins! Have fun  ;)

- A special background tool that will not replace any existing solid walls
- An undo feature
- Being able to automatically make a script load only once
I don't think these are implemented yet...

Ved is still super useful though!

It works fine for me in Chrome (apart from, interestingly, the navigation bar links that have no text specifically in Chrome, I'm surprised nobody has pointed that out yet)

You can remove the S from https, but the error shouldn't occur in the first place. Is this happening to you on other sites?

FUCK.I used IE and it doesn't work either.
I found this on the internet.
lvscheck.****.net_ssl.conf in /usr/local/nginx/conf/include/

change  ssl_protocols SSLv3 to ssl_protocols      TLSv1 TLSv1.1 TLSv1.2 SSLv3;
(I know nobody is going to get this so it's like i've said nothing)

No, it only uses TLS 1.x.

Is this happening on any other site?

Can any of you guys help me with this problem?

The Ved window is too big, I can barely see or do anything. I tried to resize it, but I can't.

It seems to me that the magnified content inside the window is the big problem

Isn't there anyway to make the window fullscreen?

My resolution is 1366 x 768.

I really want to try Ved out, but this problem is preventing me!  :victoria: :victoria: :violet: :violet:

Seems like you turned on 2x scaling accidentally.

To fix it, you need to go to %appdata%\LOVE\ved\settings.lua and set s.scale to 1.

I'll answer questions and help with problems here, and keep the OP up to date if necessary (I've updated the features list days before this topic was made but the old one was copied here), but I'm treating this as less of an official topic than the one on tOLP. That means, I'm generally only making update announcements in the other topic, except if there's an important one to make.

While I'm at it though, yesterday I released Ved b4, which has the ability to compare differences between different (versions of) levels!

Awesome!

..Wait, how does it work?

(also what I need is a testing function nggggghhhh)

The ability to see the map while editing is super cool! Really helps you keep track of your rooms - especially when you're doing a big map(20x20)! Warp tokens and gravity lines can be a little buggy sometimes tho - but opening the level in the ingame editor fixes them.  :viridian:

probably never gonna happen
dav can't remake vvvvvv physics
and if he did they'd not be accurate
because he'd have to add of the errors and bugs in the original game
the closest thing I can imagine to that is it opening up VVVVVV for you
what I usually do is keep Ved and VVVVVV both open at the same time and then just load the level from VVVVVV when I need to test

sure

you see that warp token?

well, that's the very first warp token in my level.

now, when I place it and attempt to place my exit, it doesn't let me place the exit at my desired place.

instead, the exit is automatically placed in the very first room of my level(1:1)(top left)

I tried opening the level editor, deleted the warp token, opened Ved again and made another warp token.

Same problem.

But my second, third, .. tokens do not have those problems.

It only happens to the first warp token you place into your level.

planning to put that damn token into a wall as a decoration urrgghhh

using b3 by the way, too lazy to download b4

still figuring out how to redo that grav line glitch. So basically, you place a gravity line between two walls, then you open up the ingame editor, and suddenly that gravity line goes crazy and out of place. just put the grav line between two blocks, thats what I remember.

EDIT

IF YOU ERASE THE FIRST WARP TOKEN AND ADD ANOTHER THE PROBLEM PERSISTS FOR THAT ADDED WARP TOKEN

you have to keep that damn first warp token. noooo

You're very lucky.

IMPORTANT: Ved b4 currently has a saving bug, and trying to save a level will cause scripts and room metadata to be lost! Use Ved b3 for the time being, unless you just want to use it to compare two levels.

b5 is out, fixing the saving bug that b4 had. Now there's time to investigate the warp token bug; it looks like a pretty odd bug but I haven't been able to reproduce it thus far. Are you also getting it when making a new level? When you try placing the exit, does it place an entrance warp token unexpectedly?

Nope. It gives me the option to place the exit, but no matter where I place it it always automatically sets to the top left of room 1:1. No unexpected entrance tokens. Not sure what would happen if I place a warp token in an EMPTY map with NOTHING yet.

The easiest solution would be to uninstall LÖVE 0.10 (I can tell by the error message screenshot you have 0.10) and install LÖVE 0.9 (https://bitbucket.org/rude/love/downloads/love-0.9.2-win32.exe) instead.

Ved works with both 0.9 and 0.10, and 0.10 just has some higher system requirements.

Ved gets updated regularly, so it would be better to just make the download page work. Can you access it over non-HTTPS?

Also, you're kind of opening yourself up to spam mails by posting your email address in public.

I have a bug (I think) When I use gotoroom(), I have to take away 1 from each. So if I wanted to go to (10,8) I would write (9,7).
Not sure if this is a bug, because I could not find it anywhere else.

but didn't ved fix that?

Post by: Dav999 on July 12, 2016, 02:27:20 PM
Nope, Ved does allow you to see room coordinates as starting at 0,0 or 1,1 outside of scripts but you still have to write coordinates in internal scripts starting at 0,0.

Most of the time I only post update annoucements in the topic on tOLP, but I'll post this one here as well: Ved is now officially out of beta, and version 1.0.0 has been released! Proper Windows and Mac executables are also distributed from now on.

Thanks again for all the support thus far, everyone! :viridian:

Try downloading LÖVE 0.9.2 from https://bitbucket.org/rude/love/downloads and running the source version of Ved, LÖVE 0.9.x has a higher chance of working on older systems. (The packaged Windows .exe version of Ved uses 0.10.2)

(Announcing this both on tOLP and here because this is a pretty big update)

Ved 1.1.0 has been released! It adds many new features, including:

Custom brush sizes and a selection/stamp feature:

(https://i.imgur.com/1Pz4dUn.png) (https://i.imgur.com/LGQeRCa.png)

The ability to easily create load scripts by pressing ctrl+enter or shift+enter when placing a script box or terminal:

An indicator whether coordinates are set to start at 1 or 0: (https://i.imgur.com/aYxu4nS.png) (https://i.imgur.com/HGAX9eb.png)

Command line arguments support - you can now supply a level name to load, or instantly make a new level with --new or -n.

More shortcuts - For example, in the script list, you can press N for creating a new script and F and going to the flags list.

And more things!

As always, you can read about almost all of the changes in the changelog on the download page (https://tolp2.nl/ved/?p=download).

my path: Tobias schrederhof/documents/VVVVVV/Levels

That doesn't look like they're the full paths, could you please accurately post them, including all correct capitalization, in whatever language it is in (not sure if you translated "documents", but non-latin alphabets or accented characters could cause these sorts of things) and including everything in front of your username? (Feel free to make screenshots or copy paste them instead.) Also, what operating system are you using?

Judging from the paths you posted, VVVVVV and Ved strangely seem to be detecting two different usernames - is the first S accented maybe (Tobiaš/Tobiaş/Tobiaś/etc)?

Whatever the full path to the VVVVVV folder is... On Windows (I have to guess, Mac and Linux don't use the documents folder for this), that would probably start with C:\Users\ (I don't know if your documents folder is on another drive), and would use backslashes if you're on Windows, not forward slashes.

It would be really helpful to know why Ved isn't detecting the correct path in the first place, though, so that I know if there's a bug that can be fixed. Could you please answer all questions in my previous post?

I think the gif with the spikes tool is the only gif I ever made of Ved, since making gifs can be kind of tedious, and screenshots usually work well. I guess it's a good idea if I made some video tutorials of Ved though, walking through Ved's features similar to Terry's tutorial posts in the levels board for VVVVVV's editor (part 1 (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=322.0) and part 2 (http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=394.0)). It would probably take me some days to make the videos, though!

This message is to: Dav999.
the message:
This is a kind of hard suggestion, but instead of having to manually script, it would be a great decision of having a BG script thing
that loads entities (Like with createentity() ) or crewmates (like createcrewman() ). The reason for entity loading BG scripts is for the
option of using "The Yes Men" or the "Busted..." enemies. If you want crewmates like the ones in the real game, It will be neccasary to
use that in the "load_entities" BG script, or an option to place a teleporter (put a message that it will destroy your VVVVVV save file if you
toutch it!). I hope you have a good understanding now. :]

I am too lazy to create an acc for IdeaInformer.com, so yea.

You don't need to make an account for submitting an idea on the Idea Informer; apparently you were going to send me a private message instead.

Thanks for the idea, even though it's been suggested before (https://tolp.nl/forum/index.php?topic=2863.0), but thus far I've never gotten around to making something like that (read: had the motivation to make something like that). Maybe later! (or, in theory, someone else could make it as a plugin)

Ved 1.4.0 is out!

A few features worth highlighting:

You can now use the font from the VVVVVV graphics folder in all of Ved.

The code for dialogs is being rewritten, allowing multiple dialogs to be on screen at the same time, which in turn stops dialogs from preventing you to quit Ved until you close them. Plugins can now also create their own dialogs and customize them much further with less hacky code edits. And when creating a new level, you'll now get a Save/Discard/Cancel dialog instead of an "are you sure" dialog.

There's now a screen where you can see how close you are to hitting VVVVVV limits...

Thanks to r00ster, Ved now comes with a German language option!

Also, you can also use ctrl+D in the script editor and level notes to delete the current line!

There's more, which you can find in the changelog (https://tolp.nl/ved/?p=download) as usual. Have fun!

(oh, and should you be confused about the April Fools' update which was called Ved 1.4: Ved's true version numbering system always has three parts, 1.4.0 is never abbreviated to 1.4. That's how you can tell them apart!)

VED is pretty cool, but I have a problem: I'm not sure if it's the computer or the application, but it doesn't let me close out sometimes. I find it hilarious that you can change the p1 of checkpoints and start points and get different sprites. what do the other p things do?

Which version of Ved did you download? The first thing I can think of is that, in earlier versions, dialogs would prevent you from quitting since there could only be one dialog on screen at a time, so there was no way to ask whether you want to save or discard changes when quitting.

The only reason why quitting would be blocked in the latest version is if it's going to warn for unsaved changes, or if such a quitting dialog is already directly in the foreground.

That depends on the entity. As far as I know, p4, p5 and p6 are always unused, though Ved uses p4 on gravity lines to lock them.

I'm not sure if there's a list somewhere that lists all properties of all the entities, but if you're interested, here's the one I made years ago, when I still had to investigate much of this. Otherwise, Ved's code would have all the info. Maybe I'll make an updated version of this list some day.

This was the official alpha 1. You could click tiles to cycle through them!

The development process was pretty open, so it's a bit hard to say what the "first" version was as you probably have in mind, since I released versions throughout the entire development process; each version became more and more usable. You could look at the release dates for the first "alpha" (see above), "beta", and "stable" versions, though. Everything's on the download page!

Also, next time VED gets updated, I think finalmode(x,y) should be orange, Because if you type the coordinates for V,VV,VVV,VVVV,VVVVV,VVVVVV, you can fall up and trigger the last cutscene + credits.

The internal commands list needs some other updates too, it's just that the list is duplicated in several different places in different formats, and I want to make a way to edit that list at the source (a database) instead of making lots of changes in 3 different places. I just haven't gotten around to that yet.

No*, but you can have VVVVVV open at the same time and press L+enter after saving in Ved.

* I did make an april fools playtesting feature last year, but I only approximated the physics.

Ved 1.5.0 has been released!

Again, some of the improvements in images:

The levels list now shows dates of last modification! (You can change the date and time formats in the language dialog).
The technical changes to the file-related functions have more effects that can be noticed on Windows: there are no more flashing command prompt windows, and if your account username or your level filenames use international characters or the like, everything should now work smoothly.

This image speaks for itself, and I'm planning to add more helpful features like this to the script editor!

As always, you can find the full list of changes here: https://tolp.nl/ved/download

For those who haven't seen it yet: Ved 1.6.0 has been released!

There are some major new features, including a music editor, and many other things.

I thought the best way to show the most important changes was in a video, so enjoy: Ved 1.6.0 changes in less than 1 minute and 33 seconds (https://youtu.be/--zHRj9HIrI)

I found a bug in Ved v1.6.1.

You can set the platform speed above 8 now, which allows the platforms to go through solid blocks and exit the bounds. This is more of a bug in the game, but could you limit the speed to 8 maybe?

Well, allowing values outside the range 0-8 was deliberate, it's still limited to 0-8 if you use the regular increment/decrement buttons. The level creator should test whether their chosen speed looks good either way, so this doesn't seem too much of a problem.

Huh? I set platform speed to 10 and it worked normally.
Possibly a cause of this might be room warping enabled, I tested with createentity custom level enemies (entity 56) and in a warping room, speed above 8 does indeed cause them to behave incorrectly i.e. they bounced off the edges rather than warp through the screen. I fixed that by changing movement type to 13 (goes down until collision)

Maybe not for 10, but when you set it to 20+, things spiral into chaos. I guess the best thing to do is make sure I set a speed I am comfortable with.

To fix it, you need to go to %appdata%\LOVE\ved\settings.lua and set s.scale to 1.

i set it to 1.5 and it fit my screen almost fully fit my screen
