I think it's a good idea to make a list  with all the possible meanings of VVVVVV:

  • V-shaped spikes
  • Fliping twice while going forward forms a V
  • 6 characters, all their names starting with V.
  • 6 Time Trials, max rank is V.
  • Viridian vanished via Veni Vidi Vici.
  • 2 x 7812 + 400 + 1 = 56;7812 is the total number of spikes in the main game (not including flip mode), 2 means "normal" and flip modes, V is a in roman number, equaling 5, VVVVVV has 6 V's.
  • 2 x (1954 + 1966 + 1950 + 1942) + 1 = 56; 1954, 1966, 1950 and 1942 are the dates found in the main game, meanings of 2, 5 and 6 are the same as above.
So, 7 meanings total!
I still haven't found a 1942, though...

mind = blown

Thanks for the overview blue626. :) If found a new one today, but it´s not as good, as the others.

There are 6 rooms in the game, which contain a standalone V (I didn´t count the rooms at the end of the Final Mission, because these names contains only V´s). 6 V´s = VVVVVV ^^

Space Station 2

* Give Me A V
* V Stitch

The Final Level

* Do Not Adjust the V-hold
* The V Stooges
* 1950 Silverstone Grand V
* DIY V Repair

PS: I noticed, that there are some rooms in the game, which contains some display errors (Gunsmoke; Gvnsmoke).

But if you look carefully, you can see

That's not a glitch. There's a purpose for it. The rooms ToasterApocalipse told also have it.

The room name is "On the Waterfront" (The W can be switched with a V)

What do you think is the meaning of VVVVVV? Not the well-known meanings like the first letters of  :viridian: :victoria: :vermillion: :vitellary: :verdigris: and :violet: or the spikes. The game seems to have many more meanings than that.

* If VVVVVV is a roman number (555555) and if we multiple all 5 with each other (5x5x5x5x5x5=15625), then we get the same amount of all rooms on the map (400) + spikes in normal mode (7612) and flip mode (7612) + 1 together (400+7612+7612+1=15625). XD (This can´t be random)

Amount of spikes and amount of rooms

Hi Zerdamia, I think I may have found another reference. VVVVVV was heavily influenced by 'classic 8-bit days gone-by and now', in particular by the Commodore 64.

The Commodore 64 has 64 kB of RAM.

If you divide 10^9 by 64 kB (6.4x10^4), then you'll also get the number 15625 (VVVVVV) with no remainder!

Is there something special about 10^9 (or 1 GB) here? Perhaps the game's file size? I unfortunately only have the game on console.

Nice one Torchickens. But it won´t work with 10^9. It will only work with 10^6. Then you get 15625 from it (10^6/64). ;) But i don´t see a connection too VVVVVV. I look for that. ^^

Thanks.  Good luck at finding a connection!

10^9/64000 is the same, but I feel now it's probably just a coincidence...

As, Zerdamia said, 15625 = 56; 64=26. 56x26=(5x2)6=106. So, 106:26=56. Terry may have chosen the letter V (to represent a 5) because of that. Considering that the 64 means 64 KB; 106=1 GB. I don't find a connection between VVVVVV and the size of 1 GB, though.

Zerdamia

10^6 can also be 1 Million and there is a character ver-million. I wonder, if there is a connection to it. :vermillion:

We already have found 9 meanings. I think there are more in this thread: So, what could it mean?

Some "meanings" we found are the name's causes (I mean the name "VVVVVV"). The others are the name's consequences. For example the name might be VVVVVV because all the crew's names start with V, or all the crew's names start with V because the name is VVVVVV. So, which are causes and which are consequences? The causes are the meanings, and there might be more than one of them.

EDIT: Zerdamia: I think that, according to the VVVVVV Wiki, vermillion is a red color, but  :vermillion:'s name might have 2 meanings too.

6 rooms in the ship: the main area in VVVVVV.
Not sure if this works...

I wouldn't call that a "meaning" of VVVVVV - it's just an obiously intended consequence of the fact that there's 6 characters, their names start with V, and Terry wants to be sure that we get that! ...

FIQ

About the spikes, there is a way to check if they weere *really* intended, and that's counting the amount of spikes in the beta. Have fun!

(not sure if the beta still works however, even if someone in here still would have it).

I know that the beta had more spikes in the overworld, but less in various levels (and the fact that intermission 1 is completely absent), but not sure if they add upp nicely.

RobinLSL

If it still adds up in the beta, then it's definitely confirmed.
However even if it doesn't add up in the beta, we still can't discard the possibility that Terry had the idea between the beta and the actual release!

It means you're looking at an awesome futuristic 2-D platforming puzzle game with only six characters but twenty bonus items and nifty game mechanics! NEAT.  :vermillion:
