Starting VVVVVV with Steam Linux

Now that the Steam Linux Beta is open, I thought to give it a try. Steam lists VVVVVV as available for Linux in my Library, I installed it through Steam, but then I can't start it.

It says "Failed to start game (missing executable)." - is it supposed to work at all? What I find strange, that despite the game's appearing in my Library as available for Linux, the store page doesn't mention that the game is available for Steam Linux. :o

Another game ("Half-Life (Beta)") starts successfully.

Is there anyone who could start the game with Steam Linux?

This is due to the VVVVVV for Linux @ steam has a completely empty game folder (no data directory, no binary). As a temporary solution, you can copy over a linux install in the folder steam expects it to be, though that doesn't give you the linking between the game and steam (not that it's needed anyway - there are no achievements or such anyway).

Is there a hope that it'll be fixed so Steam will install the game correctly at the first place? Is it a Steam problem or is there something to do on Terry's part? Maybe Terry didn't supply the Linux executables for Steam. :o

Just about an hour ago, a VVVVVV update was pushed out through Steam!

Now the executables are there! \o/

My only sorrow is that it still has the V2.0 executable... Any hope that V2.1 comes through as well?

Anyway, the Steam Linux version of VVVVVV uses the same save files as the non-Steam Linux version (~/.vvvvvv/). That wouldn't be a problem if they weren't of different versions. V2.0 nicely reset my "disable OpenGL" setting, for example - I hope it didn't corrupt anything else.

V2.0 resets time trial times also.

I thought they only showed up as 'Not attempted yet', but that the actual times are still there. :-\

Yep, and it's buggy as well, but it's still better than V2.0. If I were Terry and I really wouldn't like to work on V2.1 further, I'd just release it as it is. ::) I think it's still better than having V2.0 'til the end of time.

Indeed, which I've also mentioned earlier :P
