Out and about

(random alleyway from Amaze Berlin, which I just got back from)

Right, where was I? Been a couple of months since I posted here last!

After the collection came out, I took a little time off, which was really good for me. Now I’m back to work, and I’m busy learning new things and filling up on new inspirations. This “between projects” phase of making things is precious and rare, so I’m trying not to rush myself, enjoy it while it lasts, before it turns into stress about not having released anything recently.

In general, I try to avoid doing talks and podcasts and things like that… but as the collection was getting ready to release, it felt like maybe it was a good idea to get out there and talk about it a bit. So! Here’s some public talky stuff I did recently that might be of interest:

First up, I did an ama on r/Games! I talked about my games, my advice for going indie, and which souls games are best at level 1. I think this went really well, and almost made me want to do things like this more often. (Maybe I’ll do another one in another 12 years?)

Next, I had a lovely chat with Tin Sensei on youtube about my three commercial games. He made this very nice video on VVVVVV based on the interview, and I think he’s planning to do some more soon?

I also did a rare podcast, with Nathalie of Kritiqal Care! We recorded this one a couple of days before the collection came out, when I was maybe not at my most coherent… but, eh, it probably came out ok, I dunno. This is my second podcast *ever*, I think? (the first was with Eggplant, couple of years back)

Finally, uh, this hasn’t happened yet, but I’m going to be in Canada!

I’m gonna be joining Metroid Crime live on twitch for her Glitchless – 100% speedrun attempt, doing some kind of dev commentary and cheering her on. Should be fun! (I’ll also be out and about in Toronto, checking things out at Toronto Games Week, which I’m very excited about.)

That’s all for now, see ye round <3

  1. I really enjoyed your commentary on the VVVVVV speedrun from Lady Arcaders (for anyone else who’s curious – watch here at 08:05:55 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2486822353)

I had no idea that the sad elephant was sad b/c he’s trapped, or that he’s inspired by the whale from that old zelda game! Also cool to hear a bit how Bennett Foddy ended up naming some of the screens in the game

And congrats to Metroid Crime on a really impressive run!
