(Note: These screenshots aren’t representative of the final game’s graphics anymore – I’ve gone with a more saturated look.)

A quick update on my new game: No Quarter is in less than six weeks! I’ve been working to a strict deadline and hope to have the game more or less finished by April 22nd for playtesting.

Stian sent me more music for the game today, and it’s absolutely bloody perfect. Still hoping to put together a video or something soon so I can share some of it.

To repeat something I said elsewhere: I know I’ve been complaining a lot about deadline pressure on twitter and in real life recently, but it’s only because I really feel like I’m on to something with this game, and don’t want to rush it. I don’t even know what it’s called yet.

  1. You mentioned that the game was intended to be played on the show floor, specifically, right? Will those of us who can’t be there get to try it, too?

  2. Right now, I’m only concerning myself with making something that works at the exhibition – something that works in a different environment is going to have to be reworked in a very fundamental way.

So, the answer to your question is that I don’t really know yet. It’s something I’m thinking about, but my focus for now is getting something that works at the show.

  3. I just realized I might actually be able to be in New York sometime in May. That would be incredible! I’ll try to plan for it, like I stupidly forgot to do for GDC.

(I was leaving San Fransisco this year just as all the indie game people were arriving! And GDC was one of the major things I wanted to reach during my semester of traveling around. But, well, poor planning happened. At a hostel later in my travels, I met Evan Balster (of Infinite Blank), who told me that all the indie people ended up in the very same SF hostel that I had been in.)

  4. @StephenM3: That would be awesome! I’m gonna be in New York from the 10th to the 15th, would be cool to meet up for a drink or something 🙂 Sorry you missed us in San Francisco!

@Edmundito: Hope you’re not travelling too far, heh. The exhibition itself is pressure enough!

@SquareWheel: Thank you! I don’t expect this game will be to everyone’s tastes, though!

  5. I won’t be able to come to the exhibition – would it be possible for someone to make a video of this in operation on the show floor, so we can at least understand how it works even if we can’t play it?

  6. Can’t wait to see this played just to see how that visual style doesn’t completely ruin playability, because it looks pretty darn distracting in screenshot form. (Unless that’s the point, in which case I’ll enjoy my headache)

  7. Thank you, but I’ll probably ask people around Cambridge to test it in person! This is very different from VVVVVV, but I hope you’ll like it anyway 🙂

  8. Aah, thank you! (for both things)

This is what I get for not double-checking everything after messing with CSS!

CamStudio looks just like what I was looking for. 🙂
